I finished this book a while ago, but I’ve just now had the time to sit down and write about it. Such a busy week! Anyway, the book I finished was Blink & Caution by Tim Wynne-Jones. The first thing that kind of threw me off about this book was the fact that Blink and Caution are the names of the two main characters. Well not their real names…their nicknames. You find out their other names later. But I just thought that was weird, that those were their names. Caution kind of gives why she gave herself that name, but I never really understood Blink’s name. And I guess I never will.
The story is about a boy, Blink, who witnesses a fake kidnapping, and is now on the run from the authorities. Caution is on the run from her drug-dealing ex-boyfriend, and both of their lives eventually intertwine. The way Tim Wynne-Jones wrote that into the story was absolutely fantastic, if you ask me. It just seemed so effortless, and it seemed like something that could happen in real life, which I liked. I liked the story in general, the voice of the characters and what it was about. I haven’t read much like it before, and a new idea is always refreshing for someone like me that reads a ton.
I think one of the most intriguing things about Blink & Caution was the way that Tim Wynne-Jones switched between Blink and Caution. Blink’s perspective was told in second person and Caution’s was told in third, which made it really easy to tell who was who. The only thing was I don’t particularly like books that are told in second person, so the fact that Blink’s story was told in this way irritated me a little bit. But I thought it was a really cool idea, and it really helped me to tell who was talking.
Completely switching topics but…in honor of the release of the 8th and final Harry Potter movie (so sad, yet so exciting!), I am re-reading all seven Harry Potter books. Yes, I realize the movie comes out in a week. Yes, I realize the books are quite long. But I have faith in myself that I can finish all seven before the movie comes out. Actually, I am already on three, so woohoo! I will post my review of the first two soon, but you’ll probably be able to tell that they will be pretty good reviews. Get ready for a week of Harry Potter. 🙂
