Catching Fire was just as exciting the second time around. The fact that I didn’t really remember what happened probably helped a little, but I still think that this is a book no matter how times you read it, it will still be exciting. Even if you know what’s going to happen. Last night, I promised myself I was going to stop reading at midnight and sleep, since I had to work in the morning. But that time got pushed farther and farther back as I kept reading. Eventually, I didn’t go to sleep until I had finished the book. Which was two hours later. But really, I don’t have any regrets. But now I have to wait to read Mockingjay because someone else had borrowed it from us…
Anyway, I don’t really want to do much summary, because Catching Fire picks up right where The Hunger Games leaves off. But I can tell you the story of when I first read Catching Fire. It was the summer before my senior year in high school (I think anyway…) and we were getting an advance copy of Catching Fire, through BBYA. There was a waiting list, by my sister and I were pretty high on the list. My sister got the book from her friend, and she told me that she got to read it first. However, she didn’t start reading it right away because we had been busy that day. She went to bed before she got to start it. So, after she fell asleep, I sneaked into her room and took the book. And read it until I finished it. Then went to sleep. The next morning, my sister wasn’t very happy with me. But I was pleased. I had succeeded in reading the book first. 🙂
The reason I read the book so quickly was because the action never stops. And there’s a pretty big plot twist in the middle that I definitely didn’t see coming the first time I read it. It’s one of those books that you can’t put down. I know I said that a lot about The Hunger Games, but it’s absolutely true. It’s kind of hard to describe the exact reason why this series is so good. You kind of have to read it to see why. Because once you start, there definitely is no stopping until you know how it ends. I hope that the movies do it justice. There will be a lot of angry people if it isn’t.
I guess that’s it for now. Obviously, I will be reading Mockingjay next once I get it back, but for now I’m reading The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. Another good series that you should check out. 🙂
