Listening to music in the car on the way to the library today, I decided to try my hand at creating playlists for various characters from books, beginning with the lovely Katniss Everdeen, the bad ass heroine of the Hunger Games trilogy. A talented archer, thrown into being a symbol of the rebellion, constantly fighting to protect her family, here are 10 songs that pay respect to the bad-assery of the character of Katniss Everdeen.
“Hunger of the Pine” by alt-J
One of the first images we get of Katniss is of her hunting in the woods, plus the music video looks so Hunger Games-eqsue.
“Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys
An obvious choice, but who can resist a song that directly ties to the nickname Katniss is given at her first Games?
“I Found” by Amber Run
I think this song is fitting for Katniss and Peeta’s relationship; after all, it all started with the Games, and who expects to find love there?
“Kettering” by The Antlers
Another one for the Katniss/Peeta relationship (can you tell who I shipped?), the first line says it all: “I wish that I’d known in that first minute we met, the unpayable debt that I owed you.”
“Let the Flames Begin” by Paramore
Fitting for the state of Panem, and the state of Katniss at the end of her second Games.
“Warriors” by Imagine Dragons
Obviously, Katniss proves over and over again that she’s a warrior, and I always thought that this song should have been included in one of the movies, it fits so perfectly.
“Titanium” by Sia
Constantly beaten down by the Capitol, Katniss proves that she is titanium (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun).
“Breath of Life” by Florence + the Machine
By the end of the trilogy, Katniss feels like she’s supporting the lesser of two evils by being a part of the rebellion, not wanting to support another corrupt power in President Coin.
“I Gave You All” by Mumford & Sons
Definitely true for Katniss by the end of the series.
“Yellow Flicker Beat” by Lorde
Written for Mockingjay: Part 1, sums up the character of Katniss nicely.
Have another song you think should be on Katniss’s playlist? Leave it in the comments below! Otherwise, enjoy!
