Moody and handsome, Gale is the other heartthrob from The Hunger Games series. At first, we all think that Gale is the perfect match for Katniss, but we quickly see how fast power corrupts him. Gale is a complex and interesting character, though perhaps not very likable by the end of the series. Here is a playlist dedicated to his firey and rebellious spirit–and unrequited love from Katniss.
“Arsonist’s Lullaby” by Hozier
The need to resist burns in Gale like a fire, and has ever since he was a child. The fire only grows stronger when he finally has the ability to rebel.
“I Only Want to Be With You” by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
From the beginning, it’s clear that Gale loves Katniss, and would do absolutely anything for her.
“Still” by Daughter
This song speaks to the vast amount of things that Gale lost, including his relationship with Katniss. Perhaps by the end they were still made for each other–but Gale’s role in Prim’s death keeps them apart forever.
“Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons
Gale messed up in the end, and he knows that his mistakes will cost him.
“Ready Aim Fire” by Imagine Dragons
An homage to Gale’s passion to fight for what’s right, to fight against the system that’s never done him any favors.
“New Revolution” by The Waking Hours
Once the Capitol begins to fall, Gale is ready.
“Runaway” by The National
Once the revolution starts to gain momentum in Panem, Gale refuses to runaway; he needs to stand and fight.
“Things We Lost in the Fire” by Bastille
Gale loses Katniss in the course of the revolution; especially after that fateful bomb that he had a hand in that killed her sister.
“I Can’t Make You Love Me/Nick of Time” by Bon Iver
In the end, Gale makes choices that have ruined his chances with Katniss; something he’ll regret for the rest of his life.
“Gale Song” by The Lumineers
Perhaps cheating a bit, since this song comes from the Catching Fire soundtrack, written for Gale’s many woes and hardships.
A combination of songs for a complicated character. Enjoy!
