Perhaps a bit different from my other playlists, but I’ve been reading some of the original Spider-Man comics published in the 1960s–and I’m absolutely obsessed with the new Spider-Man movie (have you seen it yet?). Spider-Man has probably always been my favorite superhero, so in honor of the new movie, and the fact that Tom Holland is the perfect Spider-Man/Peter Parker, here’s a playlist dedicated to everyone’s favorite webbed hero.
“Left Hand Free” by Alt-J
As this is the song that’s playing when Spider-Man is introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I figured it would be fitting as the first song on this playlist.
“Time to Pretend” by MGMT
Peter Parker always feels like he’s pretending, especially when he feels like he could be doing so much more. There are times, especially in the comics, where this situation gets comical as his fellow schoolmates worship Spider-Man but bully Peter Parker.
“40 Day Dream” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Being Spider-Man makes Peter feel like he’s been sleeping all this time, and now he’s finally woken up.
“A World Alone” by Lorde
Peter feels that “slow burn wait while it gets dark” all throughout school, because he’s just itching to get back out as Spider-Man.
“Waiting On the World to Change” by John Mayer
Throughout Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker constantly feels like he is just waiting, waiting for his opportunity to change the world. At least, until he takes matters into his own hands.
“Hungry Heart” by Bruce Springsteen
Always hungry to be doing something to help people, to be doing something outside of the high school he’s always stuck in.
“My Shot” by Lin-Manuel Miranda
Peter isn’t throwing away his shot to make it as a hero, even if it means going against what Tony Stark told him to do.
“Whatever It Takes” by Imagine Dragons
No matter what, Peter will do what he needs to do to save people.
“The Underdog” by Spoon
Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, are often considered the underdog, and probably rightfully so, given his age and his experience. But everyone likes to root for the underdog, right?
“That Spidey Life” by Nerdist/Bruno Mars
A song parody of Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like,” a perfect ending to any Spider-Man playlist.
