The BookTube community isn’t one that I’ve really broken into (I really dislike recording myself), but every year, they do a read-a-thon featuring different reading challenges; ultimately, to get you to read outside of your comfort zone. My friend Alyssa suggested that we buddy read a book together for BookTube-A-Thon. So, I decided that I’ll participate with the reading challenges/Instagram challenges that they’ll post daily! Huzzah! That means I’m going to read seven books this week–we’ll see how that goes!
Essentially, there are seven different challenges for you to fit books into, so today, I made a list of all the books I’m planning on reading for the week (I picked a variety of lengths to hopefully make it easier!). I’ll probably check in on my Wednesday post to let you know how it’s going, and you can always follow me over at my Instagram to check out my reading adventures for the day! Or follow along on Twitter. Without further ado, here are the books I’m planning on reading for the week.
1. Let a coin toss decide
I did my coin toss this afternoon (you can see it in my Instagram stories) between Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate and Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes. Rebel Spring won out, so that’s what I’ll start off the week with! Of course, I’m hoping to finish my current read (Vox by Christina Dalcher) before that, but we’ll see!
2. Read a book about something you want to do
This one I had a more difficult time with because I couldn’t figure out something I wanted to do, nor a book that would feature it. I ended up with volume two of Captain Marvel because one, I want to watch the move (I know, I know, I have awhile), and two, because I’ve always thought it would be cool to be a comic book illustrator/writer. Plus it’s a shorter read after the longer book I picked for my first read.
3. Read and watch a book to movie adaptation
Originally, I was going to read Darkest Minds, but I realized it didn’t come out until Friday and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to get to the movie right away. So, I picked Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli because I’ve been meaning to re-read the book and I now own the movie, so it will be easy to do both.
4. Green on the cover
This one is a book that I meant to read in July, but I ended up reading other books so I never got to it: The Beauty That Remains by Ashley Woodfolk. The cover is a beautiful rainbow, and I can’t wait to actually dig into it because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
5. Wearing a hat the whole time
I picked another shorter read for this one (though not the shortest!) because it’ll be getting toward the end of the week and I don’t know how far behind I’ll be. For this day, I’ll be reading The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline; this is also the buddy read I’ll be doing with Alyssa! I hadn’t heard of this book until she suggested it to me, but it sounds really interesting!
6. Beautiful spine
I stared at my bookshelf for at least 5 minutes for this one, trying to decide what qualified as a “beautiful spine.” I just ended up on Cinder by Marissa Meyer because I’ve been meaning to get to this series, and I think the typography for the title is beautiful. Maybe this means that I’ll actually get to the rest of the series by the end of this month!
7. Read 7 books
The final book on my list is And the Ocean Was Our Sky by Patrick Ness, which I received through a book trade on Twitter. As many of you know, Patrick Ness is absolutely one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to see what this book has in store. In case you’re wondering, I will absolutely still be buying the full edition because I’m sure the illustrations (and the cover) are going to be gorgeous. But I’m just excited to get to read it early!
I feel like reading 7 books in one week is a bit ambitious when I work almost full time and am planning to (hopefully) launch an Etsy shop this week. And switch my blog over to a different program (i.e. WordPress). But I figure if I eliminate most of the time I spend scrolling through social media, I should be able to rise to the challenge. For those of you joining in the BookTube-A-Thon, happy reading! 🙂
