We’re midway through BookTubeAThon and I’m (mostly) midway through my reading list! Today I’m hoping to finish Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda and watch the movie adaptation. Even though I’ve already read the book and seen the movie. But I’ve been wanting to do a re-read, and I think this is the perfect time! Plus, this will let me see the adaptation with fresh eyes.
Some things I have noticed so far in my first BookTubeAThon:
The booktube community is so nice!
I’ve mostly been active in the Instagram book community, but I’ve been trying to branch out to the other branches of social media, mainly Twitter/Pinterest/kinda Facebook. Making videos isn’t something that has much appeal to me, but everyone’s videos and the challenges are so inspiring! Maybe someday when I have the means/and I’m not self-conscious about recording myself.
The reading sprints on Twitter are great motivation.
So far, the only sprints I’ve participated in are the ones late at night (again, due to my work schedule), but I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve joined! Monday night, the sprints were Mad Libs themed, meaning that the moderator took words from what people were reading and inserted them into famous book quotes. It was so fun! And I think it’s great seeing what everyone else is reading.
It’s difficult to read quickly when you work a lot.
I’m generally a fast reader, but I struggled with finishing my book the first day; luckily, I picked a graphic novel for the second day, so I’ve been able to stay on track. I’ll start my third read tonight, giving me a leg up for tomorrow. Reading on my breaks at work are a thing, but I never get in as much reading as I think I’m going to. Limiting social media after work has helped me finish a lot of reading though! Maybe it’s a habit I’ll be able to stick with.
Everyone is so creative with challenges.
There are video challenges, various Twitter challenges, and Instagram challenges throughout the week, and I’ve seen so many cool things! Participating in BookTubeAThon has allowed me to interact with people I wouldn’t have interacted with before, and I’m grateful. We’re all together sharing our love of reading, and the internet has made it possible to have a giant reading club with people all over the world!
All in all, I like that these events are inspiring more people to read and share what they’re reading. If you know of any other big events like this that are coming up, let me know! I’d love to plan around something like this again; it’s especially helpful for getting out of a reading slump.
