Yesterday was the first Monday of the month, but I had to deter my playlist in order to post my tour stop for The Ghost. So, you get my monthly playlist today instead! I was thinking about what I should do, and since everything in my house has currently been transformed into Christmas, it seems like a Christmas playlist is in order. I don’t think I’ve ever done one before, so this is going to be a fun challenge!
Instead of focusing on just one character, this list is a compilation of music that (would be) recommended by some of your favorite characters from young adult books. Now, just to narrow down to some of my favorite characters from YA lit.
“Someday at Christmas” by the Jackson 5
An easy place to start because, I mean, Simon Spier from Simon Vs. The Homosapiens Agenda literally says that this is the Christmas song that everyone should listen to. But I’ve gotta start somewhere, right?
“All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey
For whatever reason, I can definitely see Aelin singing this to Rowan from Throne of Glass, especially if they celebrated Christmas (I don’t think they do? There was some other holiday in the books).
“Sarajevo” by Trans Siberian Orchestra
Aaron Warner from the Shatter Me series, at least from the beginning, would throw an epic Christmas party that would most definitely feature this song. Because every Christmas party should feature this song.
I don’t know that Katniss from The Hunger Games would listen to Christmas music, but I think Peeta definitely would. He’s a sentimental person, and I think this song would just make his heart sing.
“The 12 Days of Christmas” by Straight No Chaser
I struggled with what song to give to Starr Carter from The Hate U Give, but I think this one fits. She’d probably be into more contemporary Christmas? Plus, who doesn’t love this version of this song? It’s great.
Looking for a slower Christmas song for Charlie from Perks of Being a Wallflower, I kinda wish that the Smiths had done a Christmas album. This one works too, though.
When thinking of Christmas songs from the 1980s for Eleanor from Eleanor & Park, nothing seemed more perfect than this song. For many reasons.
“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee
I think Ben from What If It’s Us would secretly enjoy dancing to this Christmas song–but only when he’s by himself. Because who doesn’t?
“White Christmas” by Michael Buble
I know, I’m doubling up on Rainbow Rowell books here, but I can’t help it. They’re fantastic. I think Cath from Fangirl would love listening to this song while writing her fanfiction and getting coffee from Levi.
“Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” by Bing Crosby and David Bowie
This list couldn’t be ended without something from Patrick Ness (probably one of my favorite authors of all time). This one is for Mikey from The Rest of Us Just Live Here.
