If there’s one thing all avid readers have in common, it’s an ever growing TBR (to-be-read) list. While I searched for book blogging memes to use for Meme Monday, this one caught my attention. Thus, I think it might be something I start doing mid-month. Hopefully, it’ll help me keep up on my TBR list!
The meme goes like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
- Put in ascending order by date added
- Take the first 5 or so books
- Read the summary
- Decide: stay or go?
This meme was created by Lia over at Lost in a Story. I think I’ll stick with 8 books; sounds like a reasonable amount, right? I know there are definitely books on my to-read shelf that have been there for years.
I liked Lia’s idea of separating out my to-read list using Goodreads’ tag feature. This might help me to prioritize a bit more. The books that I do want to read someday but not necessarily right now will be tagged as “eventually.” Because, you know, I’ll get there at some point.
The TBR Hole
This is the (final?) book in a series that I started in high school where teenagers saw the death date of everyone they met. I think it’s been long enough that it’s safe to say I probably won’t finish the series. If the previous book had ended on a cliff-hanger, I would have finished it already. Therefore, it’s leaving.
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saadvera
As a literature major, reading classics that I missed in high school/college seems like an excellent use of my time, but this one is a time commitment! I initially added it because of Going Bovine by Libbra Bray, which is a re-telling of this classic story. Therefore, it’ll be: eventually.
The Enchanter Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
Okay, I was all about this series in high school. I’ve read The Warrior Heir like 3 or 4 times. There was just something about the way magic could be hiding in plain sight that appealed to me. Maybe this year will be the year I finally finish it. Or maybe not. But! It’ll stay for now.
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen
Sarah Dessen writes beautiful stories, and while I haven’t read all her books, I’ve read a fair few. Plus, I got to meet her when I was in high school, which is when I added this book (I think). I think it’s still floating around on my shelf somewhere, so maybe it’ll make it onto a list for the Unreadshelf Project. We’ll see! For now, it stays: eventually.
The Dark City by Catherine Fisher
This is another leftover from my high school days, when I read Incarceron by the same author. I remember reading and really liking Incarceron, but probably not enough to now pick up this series. I’ve got too many other series to finish for that. Therefore: it’s leaving.
Thirteen Days to Midnight by Patrick Carman
After reading the synopsis, I don’t remember anything about this book. I don’t remember adding it to my to-read list, and it doesn’t really spark my interest. So, another one out the door!
I recently read Deb Caletti’s most recent release, A Heart in a Body in the World, and it was beautiful. This might be enough to make me pick up some of her backlist stuff, once I’ve gotten caught up on books for review and the like. If it’s anything like her newest book, I’ll probably love it. So, it stays (no pun intended)!
Department Nineteen by Will Hill
This one is apparently another start to a series that sparked my interest at one point. It’s about a secret organization that keeps the supernatural on the down-low. Which…eh? The rate I’ve been adding books lately, I think this one might have to go too.
So, out of the 8 books here that’s:
4 are leaving
2 are moving to eventually
2 I might get to this year
Not a bad start! For now, I’ll leave you with a question: what’s the book that’s been on your TBR the longest?
