We’re continuing with the trend of including my February wrap up not on the last day of February. But once again, I have a review planned for Thursday so you get it today instead. Just in time too–I finished a lot of reading on my trip to Florida, with books I can’t wait to share with you!
Last month, I finished so many books (23 to be exact. 23!). I didn’t quite get to that level this month (I blame classes picking up), but I still finished a decent amount. I got to a total of 13 books so far. This could change since I still have two days, but for now, we’ll stick with 13.
February Reading Challenges
And time for a check-in for the reading challenges that I’m participating in this year. First up: The Unreadshelf. This month’s prompt was a book that was gifted to you. I went with:
- The Call by Peadar O’Guilin
A dystopian novel, this one was actually quite creepy! But it was also a quick read and I really enjoyed it.
For Book Riot’s Read Harder challenge, we had two different prompts.
A book by a woman/author of color that won an award in 2018:
- Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson (she won the Newbery Medal)
A humor book:
- Yes Please by Amy Poehler
That one doubles as my first nonfiction book of the year too! So, winning on all levels.
February Best and Worst
This month, it wasn’t hard for me to pick my favorite. After all, it was a book that I was desperately waiting to read and definitely didn’t disappoint. Can you guess what it was? Anything? Okay, okay, I’ll tell you.
Best: On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
I loved the way that this built on the world that she created in The Hate U Give, and even gave it a mention! As well as referenced other YA books. Ahh. It was great. And it’s already gotten movie rights!
Worst: Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Return of the Green Goblin
This one wasn’t terrible; I’ve just read better Spider-Man comics and this one definitely wan’t my favorite that I’ve read so far. The art wasn’t doing it for me.
