The topic for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday is nostalgic ships! (You can join this group for Top 5 Wednesday topics!) For those of you don’t know, a ship refers to two people that you think should be together, whether it’s in a book, movie, television show, etc. You’ve read a book where you just think that two of the characters should absolutely be together, right?
Since I wasn’t really aware of ships until probably late high school/college, most of these are from then. And while they aren’t all from books (as I’m currently watching The Office finale), they’re some of my favorite ships of all time! Some of them are canon (meaning they actually happen) and some of them are just wishful thinking. These nostalgic ships give me all the warm fuzzy feelings when I think about them, making me always return to their stories.
1. Jim and Pam from The Office
I mean, who didn’t ship Jim and Pam? Their story arc is just perfect (and the wedding episode!). The Office is a show I constantly return when looking for something to have on in the background. At this point, I’ve seen it so many times I don’t really have to pay that much attention to it.
2. Luna and Neville from Harry Potter
They would be so perfect together, don’t you agree? JK Rowling has never actually confirmed that they end up together, but it’s nice to think about nonetheless. I absolutely think that they deserve each other.
3. Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson from Amazing Spider-Man
Enter: one of the best relationships from superhero comics! At least, in my opinion anyway. Since I’ve been reading a lot of Spider-Man stuff lately, this one definitely has to go on the list. Though I did just read Spider-Man: Blue which is all about Peter and Gwen Stacey, which is also a swoon-worthy ship.
4. Peeta and Katniss from The Hunger Games
Even though I think that Katniss can be read as asexual in The Hunger Games and didn’t necessarily need to end up with anyone, there’s no doubt in my mind that Peeta is the perfect match for her. No one else could understand her past trauma like he did. And only Katniss is able to help Peeta through his trauma as well.
5. Simon and Baz from Carry On
Okay, this one isn’t technically nostalgic, as the book didn’t come out that long ago, but Fangirl came out earlier, so I’m counting it. There’s so much tension between the two of them throughout the book, it’s fantastic when they finally come together. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
