Beauty and the Beast is probably still one of my favorite Disney movies, besides The Lion King. It also makes for great re-tellings too, like A Curse So Dark and Lonely! Or A Court of Thorns and Roses (which I’m currently reading). When I saw this tag on Kirsty’s blog over at The Bibliophile Girl, I thought it would make an excellent weekend post!
Also, a small announcement: this next week might be a bit of a lighter week in terms of blog posts for me. I’ve got two major projects due for my classes, and they’ve both been more work than I anticipated. Ah! We’ll see what happens.
Beauty and the Beast Tag
“Tale as old as time”–A popular theme, trope, or setting you will never get bored of
The age old dystopian trope: teen from the lowest class singled out and now has to save the world. The Hunger Games got me hooked and I haven’t left yet.
Belle–A book you bought for its beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful on the inside
The special edition of The Knife of Never Letting Go. Does it count if you already read it before you bought it? Ehhh…counting it anyway.
Beast–A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you
I’m going to go with The Last Romantics by Tara Conklin (which I’m running a book club for next week!). I don’t read a ton of adult fiction, but this one just flew by.
Gaston–A book everyone loves but you don’t
I’m just going to go with The Girl King because this is the last book I can remember that I didn’t love.
Lefou–A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart
Umm…Kenji from Shatter Me! I love Kenji. He’s probably my favorite character from this series.
Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiér, and Cogsworth–A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable
Probably The Perks of Being a Wallflower, just because it showed me that even the quiet kid can easily make friends, something that’s always been hard for me.
“Something there”–A book or series you weren’t into at first but picked up toward the end
A Court of Thorns and Roses, which definitely picked up at the end of the first book. But also very definitely a Beauty and the Beast re-telling. I’m told the rest of the series does too–I’ll tell you at the end of March!
“Be our guest”–A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner
Hermione Granger. Or Katniss Everdeen? They’re two of my favorites, and they’d just be lovely.
