This week’s topic is books that moved from hate to love! More specifically, books I thought I’d hate but ended up loving. Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly Meme that’s run by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey), with weekly topics posted in this Goodreads group.
I’m going to be honest, this topic was a bit difficult for me (Spring Reads was definitely easier)! There aren’t many books I go into thinking “I’m going to hate this book,” so it was hard to narrow down ideas. I read pretty much anything, so outside of required reading, I keep an open mind. But, I was able to narrow down at least five!
Five Hate to Love Books
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
I originally had to read this for a Victorian literature class in grad school, and since it’s not my favorite, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. But, Jane Eyre actually kind of reads like YA lit! So, I ended up doing my final paper on it, and now it’s one of my favorite classics.
The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolizter
This was the first ever Barnes and Noble Book Club pick, and at first, it didn’t necessarily seem like my cup of tea. But as I got into the book, I realized that there were pieces of it that felt really relatable. I ended up really enjoyed it by the end.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
I put off reading this series for a long time because it seemed too romance-y, despite being YA dystopia. But now I’m hooked, and I can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out next week!
Mercy Rule by Tom Leveen
At first, I thought that this was just going to be a book about sports and it ended up actually being a lot more than that. It was assigned to review it awhile ago, and quite honestly, it was a really well done book!
Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young
Another review assignment, and another book I ended up loving! I’m not usually one for viking books, but I loved the world that Young created here. She has another book releasing this fall, and I can’t wait to read it!
