For today’s Bookending Spring post, we’re celebrating Type A Personality characters! In order to celebrate Avengers: Endgame coming out in two weeks, I’m focusing on Marvel characters. You might see more Marvel posts in the coming weeks. I’m not sorry about it. 😂 Check out my last Bookend post here.
Charvi @ Not Just Fiction created this prompt, officially posted yesterday. I don’t identify as Type A, so this made this task difficult. Generally, a Type A people:
tend to be very competitive and self-critical. They strive toward goals without feeling a sense of joy in their efforts or accomplishments. Interrelated with this is the presence of a significant life imbalance, characterized by a high work involvement. Type A individuals are easily ‘wound up’ and tend to overreact (From Simply Psychology).
So, those are the guidelines I followed when picking characters! We’ll see if you agree.
Type A Personality Marvel Characters
Tony Stark
Personally, I think Tony Stark is one of the most competitive Marvel members. He’s also constantly working toward the next thing; he never stops to celebrate his accomplishments. Honestly, I imagine he’ll blame himself for the events of Infinity War. But we’ll see!
Nick Fury
From Captain Marvel, we can see Nick Fury’s work-oriented nature. When Carol asks him about himself, he explains his extensive history with the US military. Fury also doesn’t really celebrate his accomplishments, like Tony. For example: the Avengers were successful, but he just focuses on the next thing to tackle.
Thor
We need to look no further than his relationship with Loki to know he’s competitive. Thor also drives to the next thing, looking for the next challenge to conquer. At first, he seems confident and self-assured, but we see a moment of weakness in Infinity War when he loses everything. He wants everything to be perfect, comparing it to how he sees his childhood.
Ultron
Okay, maybe the anxiety aspect doesn’t fit with Ultron, but he’s super controlling and competitive. He thinks his way is the only way for humanity. Which ultimately, leads to his demise. Instead of focusing on one thing, he’s always moving to the next thing.
Hope Van Dyne (The Wasp)
In Ant-Man and the Wasp, we see how work-driven Hope is. She desperately wants everything to be perfect when they’re working on the project to get her mom back. Though they’re on the run from the law, she needs everything to be just right. We see this a bit in the first movie as well, but it definitely comes out more in the second.
