It’s mid April, which means it’s time for my monthly TBR post! Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia over at Lost in a Story to work through that TBR list. I’ve been working through 8 books on my to-read Goodreads shelf. You can see my last post here!
The meme goes like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
- Put in ascending order by date added
- Take the first 5 or so books (8 in my case)
- Read the summary
- Decide: stay or go?
I’ve been adding books left and right to this list this month. So, I definitely need to get rid of some to balance it out. Although, we’re still in my early years of Goodreads, so this is a nice trip down memory lane for me.
Down the TBR Hole: April
Angry Management by Chris Crutcher
I could have sworn that I’ve read this before, but maybe I haven’t? I’ve read a number of Chris Crutcher’s other books, but maybe I never got to this one. It’s still an important YA book, so it stays.
Gemini Bites by Patrick Ryan
This is one of those I definitely don’t remember adding, though the cover image is slightly familiar. The story no longer grabs my attention, though, so it goes.
The God Box by Alex Sanchez
This is one of those that I added back when I was doing research on LGBTQ young adult books. Honestly, this was also back when the population of these books was just starting to grow. I think I’d still like to read it, just eventually.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Ohh I think I actually started this when I added it to Goodreads, but I never got around to finishing the book. I think I still own it, too. I really would like to finish it someday, so it stays for eventually.
All These Things I’ve Done by Gabrielle Zevin
Whaaat this is a dystopian novel? And the main character is in a family that makes chocolate? No wonder I added this book to my list way back when. 😂 All of these things sound fascinating, but I don’t think it’s something I need to keep around. It goes.
The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp by Rick Yancey
I went through a bit a Rick Yancey thing back when I first read The Monstrumologist, but I couldn’t get into his most recent series, The 5th Wave. I’m not sure I still want to read this–but it is a twist on the tale of King Arthur, so other people might like it. Just not for me. It goes.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web by David Lagercrantz
I definitely loved the Millennium trilogy when I first read it, but that’s how I read it. As a trilogy. I liked how the series overall ended, and while I thought I’d want to read this one, maybe I don’t. Plus, someone else is writing it and it just wouldn’t be the same. It goes.
Slade House by David Mitchell
So, I own like 3 or 4 of David Mitchell’s books, but I’ve never actually read any of them. 😂 I’ve seen the movie Cloud Atlas though, and all of his books sound fascinating. This one sounds super fun! I’m definitely keeping it.
Stay or Go?
Out of the 8 books for April:
2 are staying
2 are moving to eventually
4 are being axed
This is the most books I’ve gotten rid of so far! We’ll say it’s in the name of spring cleaning.

Doing a monthly down the TBR hole is such a good idea! I definitely need a spring cleaning of my TBR list, it is ridiculously long at this point.

Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed it so far! It really makes me think about the books I’m adding to my Goodreads TBR shelf.
