It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for another Game of Thrones episode! I recently finished all the audiobooks, and we’re also quickly nearing the end of the show. Just two episodes left! Forever! I think once the entire show is out, I might go back and re-watch the whole series, see how it all works together. I probably should have done that before this new season came out, but oh well. I’m getting by from what I remember from the books.
Though Game of Thrones probably doesn’t fit under the young adult category, there are young adult books that feel like it. And if you’re a fan of the show, you’ll probably need something to read once the show is over. Maybe they’ll help you to get over all the emotions you feel from the ending of the show. 😂 Whether it’s dragons, battles, or fights for the throne, these series are sure to keep you entertained until you find your next TV obsession.
P.S. I’m making my way through the Avengers Readathon books, which I’m almost done with! I’ll have another post once it’s wrapped up.
YA Series Like Game of Thrones
Throne of Glass series by S.J. Maas
Though there aren’t technically any dragons in this series, there are some pretty cool other creatures. And magic. And epic battles to rule the kingdom. If George R.R. Martin is a king of adult fantasy, Sarah J. Maas is the queen of YA fantasy. Plus, this series has seven books, so you’ll be kept busy all summer.
Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes
There’s a lot of twisting and turning in this series, with a king who is absolutely ruthless in ruling his kingdom. With prophecies and earth magic and intricate plot lines, you’ll find everything you want and more in Rhodes’ books. Bonus, they’re all out now, so you don’t even have to wait to see what happens next!
Eon series by Alison Goodman
If dragons are the reason you keep coming back to Game of Thrones (for good reason), then this is the perfect series for you. Eona has been hiding as a boy all these years in order to learn Dragon Magic, which females are forbidden to learn. When people learn of her secret, a fight breaks out for the throne. Dragons, magic, and fights for the throne will keep you engaged after you finish that last final episode.
Graceling books by Kristsin Cashore
There’s lot of spying and intrigue in these books, as well as strong women and magical powers. These are a bit older than the other books on this list, but they withstand the test of time. There’s a lot of action and fighting as well, to suit those that loved the battle scenes from Game of Thrones.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
This is the only series on the list I haven’t read, but I’ve heard great things about it. It includes of a lot of great representation in addition to strong world building and easy to like characters. Maybe I’ll get around to reading it this summer as well!
