Somehow, it’s already the end of May, which means that Book Con is officially tomorrow! I’ll have a post next week outlining my experience there. But! You can follow my weekend over on Instagram or Twitter. I’ll be on both throughout the weekend.
This month was an amazing reading month for me. I read a lot of books in a day (what??) and just finished a lot of books in general. I got caught up on some of my reading challenges and finished up the Avengers Readathon. So many good things, and the month ends with my trip to New York! Yay!
Reading Challenges
I had to do some catching up on these from April, but I did it! Back on track for both challenges, which is an excellent feeling.
For the Unreadshelf Project, the prompt this month was: adaptation. I read:
- Spectacular Spider-Man: Sins Remembered by Sara Barnes
Not necessarily a direct adaptation, but a loose adaption. I’m still counting it. 😂 This hasn’t been my favorite Spider-Man run, but it was important in my quest to read all Spider-Man comics.
I caught up on Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge! I read four books for this this month, officially getting me back on track for the rest of the year.
- #OwnVoices book set in Mexico or Central America: All the Stars Denied by Guadalupe Garcia McCall
- #OwnVoices book set in Oceania: Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak
- Book published prior to 2019 with less than 100 reviews: I, Claudia by Mary McCoy
- Translated book by a women: Ophelia by Charlotte Gingras
These were all books I wouldn’t have chosen outside of the challenged, and they were all fantastic reads! I’m glad that I read them.
May Best and Worst
I’m just having so much luck with the books I’ve read lately, it’s always hard for me to pick a “worst” of the month. Maybe I should rename it? Something to consider for later months.
I think my favorite for the month was:
- Wild and Crooked by Leah Thomas
This was such a surprise read for me. I liked it so much that I read it all in one sitting. It’s been awhile since I did that, but this book was worth it.
My least favorite was:
- This Might Hurt a Bit by Doogie Horner
This was not what I expected, and it felt kind of rambly to me. I didn’t really understand the point by the time I got to the end of the book.
