Shaun David Hutchinson is one of my favorite YA authors, as I’ve mentioned before. He writes books that are extremely relatable and deal with real life issues for teens. Through NetGalley, I got the chance to review his latest book, Brave Face, a memoir about his life. Which comes out next week! And you should definitely pick it up when it does.
Anyway, as I mentioned in my Instagram post today, I think he’s severely underappreciated in the online book community. At least, in the online Bookstagram community. His books aren’t talked about enough! So, I’m spreading the love today by featuring some of my favorite quotes, to get you excited for his new book coming out next week.
Shaun David Hutchinson Quotes
1. “We may not get to choose how we die, but we can choose how we live. The universe may forget us, but it doesn’t matter. Because we are the ants, and we’ll keep marching on.” – We Are the Ants
2. “The moment that we forget that the evil among us are still human is the moment we forget that even the most human among us are still evil.” – The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza
3. “The constant noise of our own personal problems drowns out what’s happening in the rest of the world. We get caught up in our day-to-day struggles and can’t see that everyone is fighting their own battles.” – The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza
4. “Chaos is an excuse for people who don’t have the patience to see patterns.” – The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley
5. “It’s impossible to let go of the people we love. Pieces of them remain embedded inside of us like shrapnel. Every breath causes those fragments to burrow through our muscles, nearer to our hearts. And we think the pain will kill us, but it won’t. Eventually, scar tissue forms around those twisted splinters like cocoons. They remain part of us, but slowly hurt less.” – At the Edge of the Universe
6. “Don’t get so focused on where you’re going that you forget the people you’re travelling with. There’s no point reaching a destination if you arrive alone.” – At the Edge of the Universe
7. “Grief is quiet. Grief is a strangled cry. Tears we hide. A scream in a vacuum where sound doesn’t carry. And though we try to share it, grief is ultimately a burden each of us must carry alone.” – The Past and Other Things That Should Stay Buried
8. “Depression isn’t a war you win. It’s a battle you fight every day. You never stop, never get to rest. It’s one bloody fray after another.” – We Are the Ants
9. “We had to drive to the past so that we could face the future.” – The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza
10. “We remember the past, live in the present, and write the future.” – We Are the Ants
