Review: When Death Is Calling
The author provided me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Let me begin by saying I didn’t realize this was a sequel until I was looking at the Goodreads profile to include it on my review. 😂 Even though it says it on the cover of the book in the email I got and everything. Oops! It would explain why I was confused at the beginning, but eventually picked up on stuff as we moved forward in the book.
That being said, this is a very fast paced book. Things happen one right after another, quickly propelling you through the story. Though this can mostly stand on its own, I do wish I had read the first book before reading this one because it felt like there’s information I was missing. I enjoyed the characters and their predicament (it reminded me a bit of the TV show Supernatural). However, for the first half, I struggled to connect to them. I needed that bit of background information to push me just over the edge.
One of the aspects that I enjoyed most was the lush descriptions of the world where the demon lived. The author is excellent at description, and the world he created seemed absolutely beautiful! Even the descriptions of magic and the supernatural stood out to me from the rest of the writing.
Overall, this is an enjoyable read, especially if you’re looking for something fast paced with lots of cliff hangers. Maybe I’ll have to go back and read the first book (after I finish my backlog of review books 😂). For those of you keeping track of my reviews, this one also reminded me of Demons of Time.
