My own topic for Top 5 Wednesday this week is LGBTQ couples! Top 5 Wednesday is on hiatus for the summer, but I’ll probably do some backlist topics in the coming weeks. Because sometimes I might need inspiration! We all get stuck in a rut occasionally. With so much going on, short topics are good topics.
Anyway, I picked this one for this week because it’s still Pride Month! And there are some great LGBTQ couples in YA lit recently. And hopefully more to come! There are some graphic novels I have my eye on at work that I’m just dying to buy.
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly Meme that’s run by Lainey (Gingerreadslainey), with weekly topics posted in this Goodreads group. But, she’s on hiatus at the moment. Here’s my post from a few weeks ago!
Top 5 LGBTQ Couples
1. Simon and Baz from Carry On
Obviously, this is one of the most adorable relationships ever, because Rainbow Rowell wrote it. And we get to see more of them soon! I am so, so excited for that. Their romance is classified as enemies to lovers, with a little magic on the side.
2. Leah and Abby from Leah on the Offbeat
Leah takes the stage in this third book from Becky Albertalli, and though their relationship is a bit back and forth, but it’s really cute in the end. Much like Simon and Blue were in the first book.
3. Ari and Dante from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
This will one day be considered a classic in terms of LGBTQ YA lit. And for good reason! There are a lot of good things to love about this book, plus some great diverse representation. Honestly, it really makes a good summer read, too!
4. Arthur and Ben from What If It’s Us
Talking about a cute romance with lots of first-dates, this collaboration between Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli is the romance you need to read this summer. Arthur and Ben’s relationship will make your heart melt in all its awkward glory.
5. Marin and Mabel from We Are Okay
Marin and Mabel go from friends to more than that, but not before they have to work together to help Marin get through her grief and guilt about her past. Their relationship is a beautiful one, told in a short amount of time. And that cover is gorgeous!
