Officially back from seeing Spider-Man: Far From Home last night, so I thought it was time to rank Marvel movies! Phase 3 is (apparently) officially over with this movie. Which is an excellent way to end phase 3, in my opinion! I absolutely loved the movie, and I think it sets a good stage for the next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Anyway, I wanted to do a ranking after Endgame came out, but thought I’d wait for this movie to do so. The list might be a bit biased because Spider-Man is my favorite, but what ranking list isn’t? All opinions are my own, feel free to agree or disagree. In fact, let me know your thoughts in the comments! I’d love to hear your favorite Marvel movies, too.
There are 23 movies at the moment, so I’ll give brief thoughts where I think is needed. If you’re interested, you can also check out my review of Endgame from a few months ago!
Marvel Movies Ranking
- Captain Marvel: The more I watch this movie, the more I’m convinced it’s my favorite. There isn’t anything I can find that I don’t like.
- Spider-Man: Far From Home: Is it too early to say this? Eh, I don’t care. I loved it so much. 😂
- Avengers: I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out, and this first interaction between the Avengers is a classic.
- Iron Man: The start of it all, this probably has to be in the top five.
- Spider-Man: Homecoming: I saw this in the theater three times and I’m not ashamed. 😂 Tom Holland can play Spider-Man forever, as far as I’m concerned.
- Avengers: Endgame: Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this a lot. Hasn’t topped my favorites, though.
- Thor: Ragnarok: Funny Thor is better than serious Thor, and this movie is proof.
- Black Panther: The costumes and the music absolutely make this movie.
- Avengers: Infinity War: I liked that this movie ended in a way that no one expected. Sure, there’s a second one, but it was different from other Marvel movies.
- Captain America: Civil War: One of the longest movies, sure, but we get our first look at Spider-Man! Plus, the story was interesting.
- Ant-Man: I love Paul Rudd, and this movie was hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.
- Guardians of the Galaxy: This is probably my sister’s favorite, and I like that Marvel doesn’t take itself too seriously in this one. Plus, we get important info on infinity stones.
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier: For this one, I liked the spin that Bucky was back. And we get our first look at Hydra.
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: A fantastic follow-up to Ant-Man. Also funny in its own right.
- Iron Man 3: I know a lot of people don’t like this one, but I like the way Tony is shown dealing with PTSD. It makes it more realistic.
- Thor: Another classic, though we get serious Thor. I’m telling you, funny Thor is better.
- Captain America: A good movie in terms of origin stories, but not super exciting.
- Doctor Strange: The best thing about this movie was Strange’s character development. And, he’s important in Infinity War.
- Iron Man 2: This isn’t my favorite of the Iron Man movies. It didn’t feel different enough?
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2: This is a case of the first movie being better.
- Avengers: Age of Ultron: This one was kind of a let down after the first one. But, we got to learn more about Hawkeye, who I love!
- Thor: Dark World: I’ve seen this movie three times and I still don’t really know what happens in it. 😂 It just doesn’t keep my attention.
- The Incredible Hulk: Only seen this once and have no desire to see it again.

Captain Marvel had the most bland writing of the entire mcu. It tries to do what Wonder Woman did for DC but for me fell far short because bland writing. The best parts of the movie are nick fury and goose

See, I don’t agree with that because a lot of the story relates to the experience a lot of women have. Captain Marvel’s story arc is about not letting Yon-Rogg and the Kree hold her back anymore. There’s just so much I like about it, and this review explains it far more eloquently than I can: https://twitter.com/GeneticJen/status/1113715734746750976?s=19

She didn’t have to hold back in the first place. For me they didn’t elevate women empowerment it’s like they took the Wonder Woman formula of you’re stronger then you realize and added a buddy cop element to it

She wasn’t holding back, she was literally being mind controlled? And the moment she realized it, she destroyed them. I’m not sure it’s fair to compare Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman, because they are completely different movies. Including a character like Captain Marvel with that much power in the MCU is quite empowering for women, I would argue. Especially because the MCU is so much more successful than DC movies.
