I officially finished the Illuminae Files last month, and it’s now probably one of my favorite series! Also, I apologize for my absence the last week. My classes are winding down and I’ve had quite a bit of homework the last week or so. But, I thought I would get a quick post in today, and hopefully some in this weekend. I miss writing them!
Originally, I wanted to do more of these Bite Size review posts, but I haven’t gotten to many of them yet. I’ll have to do more in order to better review all the books that I’ve read so far. Check out the one I did for Jeff Zentner! Also, a disclaimer: I listened to this series on audio. It was fantastic! But I really want to read the physical books as well because I’ve heard they’re a completely different experience.
Bite Size Reviews: The Illuminae Files
Illuminae
In the year 2575, Kady Grant wasn’t expecting her planet to be invaded. All she was worried about was breaking up with her boyfriend, Ezra. But as the two fight their way onto evacuating ships, a deadly plague breaks out, threatening both ships. As Kady learns about the conspiracy behind the corporation behind it all, the only person who can help her expose them is her ex. Who she promised she would never talk to again.
Honestly, I went into this series knowing almost nothing about it. I just knew that it happened in space and it was told in a different way. Let me just say that the characters hooked me right off the bat. I was rooting for Kady and Ezra and you desperately want them to get back together. And those twists! Man, this series and the twists. Seriously, whether you read it as an audiobook or a physical book, you just need to read it.

Meanwhile, during the events of Illuminae, Hanna and Nik are preparing for the biggest party on Jump Station Heimdall. Little do they know that BeiTech is arming a strike team to take over, eliminating the entire population of the Jump Station. Hanna, the daughter of the captain, and Nik, a part of the notorious crime family House of Knives, might be the ships only hope.
Okay, if we’re talking about twists, this one might have the biggest twist of all. When I was listening to it, I remember having to be interrupted because I had to go to work. All I wanted to do was listen to see how it ended! I imagine if I was reading the physical book, I wouldn’t have been able to put it down.

At the beginning of the end of The Illuminae Files, we finally learn what’s been happening on Kerenza this entire time. Little did anyone know that there were survivors on this tiny ice planet. And one of those survivors is Kady’s cousin, Asha, and Asha’s ex-lover, Rhys. Will Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik make it there in time to save them? Or will it be too late?
The final episode in the Illuminae Files definitely packs a punch. I’m kind of sad that it’s over, actually. Though I’m not sad that I waited until they were all out to read them. It meant that I was left with no cliff hangers. The last book that I have to read is the novella that they published, Memento. Can’t wait to get to it.
