It’s been awhile since I’ve thought about my childhood favorite books, but here we are! What a great topic for a Top Ten Tuesday post. As an aspiring children’s librarian, I suppose these kinds of topics are useful. Though, a lot of new stuff has been published since I was a kid. But the classics usually withstand time!
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme that was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently run by The Artsy Reader Girl. If you haven’t checked out their posts yet, you definitely should! I’ve been doing them since January and have enjoyed each one. Check out my latest one here!
Top Ten Childhood Favorites
1. Dear America series
I read this like crazy from the library every summer, for summer reading. I loved reading all these different stories based on real life.
2. Magic Tree House
My dad actually used to read these to me and my sisters when we were younger. We went through a lot of them, and they’re still being published! Apparently, I loved historical fiction a lot as a kid.
3. Warriors series
These are still being published too! Though, I wouldn’t necessarily consider them a classic. But they’re fantastic adventure series about cats. What could be better than that?
4. The Babysitters Club
This series have recently been revamped into graphic novels, but I remember the original books. I had a bunch of them, and I flew through these too!
5. Septimus Heap Books
An early foray into fantasy! I loved fantasy, too. Part of the reason that I jumped into the Harry Potter books in late elementary school.
6. Harry Potter
I didn’t start reading these till a bit later, but I think they still count as childhood favorites that branched well into adulthood. Like every other series, I flew through these too. Sense a trend? 😂
7. The Saddle Club
I also really loved horse stories when I was younger. Maybe everyone goes through a phase like that? No? Just me? All right then. 😂 I was always looking for new ones of these, too.
8. Shiloh (and subsequent books)
There was a whole series of Shiloh books after the first one, right? I think there was. Maybe it wasn’t just horses. I just loved all animal stories, apparently.
9. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Another classic that definitely stands the test of time. And another horse book! Honestly, I loved this and The Black Stallion. I think I’ve read both multiple times.
10. My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
I remember being read this book in the 4th grade. And then I went and read the rest of the books. They were absolutely fantastic.

Shiloh is such a throwback. While I want to read the book again I’m just afraid on whether this book would live up to my memory of reading the book. Horses usually were not on my radar but any book about a dog grabbed my attention. Great list~

Yeah, I feel the same way. But I absolutely loved it when I was a kid! Thank you so much! 😊

I forgot to add The Saddle Club series to my list!!! I forgot about those! You’re not alone – I also loved horse stories!

There was just something about them that was great! All animal stories were on the table.
