It’s time for my October Wrap Up! October has been a bit of a whirlwind for me! Between starting a new job, balancing work with classes, and trying to read, it feels like I have no free time. š But! I did get to visit some friends in the Detroit area this month, which always includes reading comics. This time, I read the Absolute Carnage event, though it isn’t quite finished yet. My friend said she’d send the digital version of the comic when it comes out.
Anyway, despite everything that’s been going on, I still did a fair bit of reading this month! I finished all my reading challenges and got to a few things I’d been meaning to read. My unread shelf doesn’t feel like it’s changed much, but at least it hasn’t gone up too far. I’m counting that as a win.
So, I read 16 books this month! And I’m currently on track to get to 200 by the end of the year, since I’ve been averaging about 15 books a month and I’m at 170. Yay! If you’re curious about what I read last month, check out my September post here.
Reading Challenges
For theĀ Unread Shelf Project, the challenge this month was book that scares you. I read:
- We Have Always Lived in the CastleĀ by Shirley Jackson
Everyone said this book was creepy, but I thought it was more disturbing? I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve heard her other book is much scarier, though.
Stayed caught up onĀ Book Riotās Read Harder Challenge, too! They were both nonfiction books, which actually got me to 10 nonfiction books for the year! That was my goal last year, but I didn’t quite make it.
- A book of nonviolent true crime:Ā The Spy Who Couldn’t Spell by Yudhijit Bhattacharjee
- A book written in prison:Ā Couldn’t Keep It To Myself edited by Wally Lamb
Both were definitely books I wouldn’t have picked up outside of this challenge, so I really appreciated reading outside of my comfort zone.
Other October Favorites
As I mentioned in the beginning, I read through the Absolute Carnage event that Marvel has going on currently. Also started reading the House of M event to keep up my Spider-Man reading, which I’ve enjoyed so far! Show wise, I watchedĀ Looking For Alaska which was amazing (read my review here!)
Didn’t really watch any standout movies this month either, aside fromĀ El Camino, the Breaking Bad movie. If you enjoyed the show, you’ll definitely enjoy this movie! It feels just like an extended episode.
