It’s been two weeks since Wayward Son came out, so I figured it’s time for a playlist! I’ve already done one for Simon and one for Baz, I’m just going to do one for the whole book. Basically, I binged this entire book in one night, and I already want to read it again. Plus, Rainbow Rowell has already announced she’s writing another book, so we don’t have to leave this world any time soon.
Rowell does create her own playlists for her books (you can find the Wayward Son one here!), but I figured I’d do my own take on it. It’s one of my top reads for the year, for sure. If you’re a Carry On fan, definitely pick it up!
Playlist: Wayward Son
“Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas
I mean, how could you create a Wayward Son playlist and not include this song? It just lends itself to that, between the two titles.
“Work It” by Missy Elliot
Penelope uses a lyric from this song in order to hide Simon’s wings and tail while they’re in America.
“Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons
This song, to me, encompasses Simon and Baz’s relationship throughout the book. Though honestly, if they’d just talk to each other, all the drama could be avoided.
“I’m Still Standing” by Elton John
Between everything that Simon and Baz have been through, this song fits them perfectly. Especially, I feel like, by the end of this book.
“Keep Your Head Up” by Ben Howard
Throughout everything that these three have to endure, they have to learn to keep their head up and keep fighting, no matter what.
“Hang Me Up to Dry” by The Cold War Kids
The lyrics to this song feel like they fit for Simon and Baz. Their happy moments might be few and far between, but they’re still there.
“Youth” by Daughter
About the tragedies, the trauma, sometimes associated with love. Though, Simon and Baz better not end up in tragedy. 😂
“Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” by John Mayer
Feels a bit like Simon and Baz’s whole relationship in this book, really. Their relationship feels like a ticking time bomb. They just need to talk!!!
“9 Crimes” by Damien Rice
Another one for Simon and Baz–they just make great song material, honestly.
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey
Simon, Baz, and Penelope are taking a road trip through America, and no road trip is really complete without this song. Especially in America.
