Transgender Awareness Week happens every year from November 13 to 19. So, I’m a day late, but oh well. 2020 is going to be a great year for LGBTQ releases in general, I think. From what I’ve seen in the general book universe online, there are a lot of great books to be excited for. Including the ones I have listed here!
As much as I could, I picked books that were from Own Voices authors. If you’re just looking for transgender or nonbinary authors in general, Ray Stoeve has created master list. There are a ton of great books on there, and I highly recommend checking it out! I’ve also created various lists on my blog that you can check out as well, if you’re looking for book recommendations.
Anyway, without further ado, here are some great books you need to keep your eyes on for 2020!
Transgender Awareness Week Books
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
A debut author for 2020, this features a Latinx transgender character (Yadriel) who accidentally summons the wrong ghost (Julian). It seems that Julian isn’t quite ready to move on yet. He’s got some unfinished business to attend to. And now Yadriel has agreed to help.
Rick by Alex Gino
The companion novel to George, this middle grade novel follows Rick who’s struggling with his own identity. Now that he’s in middle school, maybe now he’ll finally be able to figure himself out. Away from his dad and his overbearing friends.
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callendar
A well-established YA presence, the latest from Kacen Callendar is definitely high on my list. Felix decides to catfish his enemy in order to get his revenge. However, he starts to fall in love with his nemesis while being trolled and bullied online.
The Ghosts We Keep by Mason Deaver
Not necessarily transgender, but Mason Deaver jumped on the YA scene this year with I Wish You All the Best. Which is amazing if you haven’t read it yet! Their next book is scheduled to come out sometime next year, and I’m sure it will bring all the feels once again.
Stay Gold by Tobly Smith
Another debut author! This one featuring a transgender teen who decides to go stealth at his new school when a girl starts to fall in love with him. Being blurbed as perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli, David Levithan, and Jenny Han, this is definitely one you won’t want to miss.
