There are tons of holiday stories to choose from this time of year, but not always in the YA realm. But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t YA books that can get you into the holiday spirit! Working retail, the holiday season the past few years has been synonymous with business. I’m hoping that that will change in the next year or so, as I pursue my hopes as a teen librarian. Minimizing the stress during the holiday season would be ideal!
Anyway, I did a post similar to this last year, you can read it here! I’ve found some other recommendations, to add to your holiday cheer. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and curl up with these reads in front of your Christmas tree with a nice, cozy blanket.
Holiday Recs
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand
Five years ago, Holly Chase was visited by three ghosts and told to change her ways. She didn’t, and then she died. Now, she’s been assigned to Project Scrooge. She’s the newest ghost of Christmas past. Every year, the same thing: watching her family grow without her, changing someone else’s heart. But just maybe, this year will be different.
Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa de la Cruz
This one is actually the basis for a Hallmark movie that premiered last year. Darcy Fitzwilliam never really celebrates Christmas, until she’s forced to go home one year when her mom gets sick. There, she starts falling for Luke. But falling in love wasn’t a part of her plan. Will they actually be able to make things work? This one does have a bit older protagonist, but still a cute story.
The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
Set a year after the first book, Dash and Lily have had plenty of ups and downs. Now, Dash is determined to bring the Christmas spirit back to Lily by planning an epic quest across New York City. With the glittering snow and all the magical New York decorations, how can Lily resist?
What Light by Jay Asher
Growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Oregon, Sierra has always had two lives: one in Oregon and one in California where they sell their trees. But this Christmas is different. This Christmas, Sierra crosses paths with Caleb, and they share an immediate connection. Will their relationship last through Sierra’s strange life? Or the disapproval of everyone around them?
Mistletoe by Hailey Abbott
This one is a short story compilation featuring Hallmark-style romances. If you’re someone who loves watching these slightly cheesy movies to get you in the holiday spirit, look no further! These three stories will immediately get you in the holiday mood.

I’ve seen The Afterlife of Holly Chase around but did not know it was about Christmas 😂 though a Booktuber said she liked the love interest, so that’s something to look forward too (and the cover looks really good too).

Yeah! I haven’t quite read it yet, but it looks really interesting! It’s one of those I eventually want to get to. 😊
