Cozy winter reads really are the best. I mean, every season is a good reason for reading. But winter is really the best. Curl up under a nest of blankets, get your favorite warm beverage, and just settle in for an afternoon of reading. Sounds perfect, right? I think that will be my plans for my next day off. Coffee, a book, a blanket, and my cat.
For me, a cozy read is something you can get completely immersed in and forget about the world that’s happening around you. So, here are five books that are my go-to choices when I need something to put me in a good mood.
5 Cozy Winter Reads
Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Probably the happiest book I’ve included on this list, but no matter. Also, the only book on this list I’ve only read once (probably because it’s the newest). But there’s so much to love about this book, and it is so full of hope. You’ll fall for Alex and Henry and their story and you won’t want to put it down until you’re done.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Okay, so not the happiest choice. Still a hopeful choice, though! For me, this book is ultimately about hope. And also the perfect length to read in a single afternoon, sitting in bed sipping tea and coffee. This book will forever be one of my favorites, as I keep returning to it again and again.
Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Johnson
Again, not a happy book necessarily. But it’s set in Hawaii, so if you live somewhere cold, you can at least imagine that? This story is about dealing with grief and learning hot o live when you’ve lost someone you love. Again, there’s hope though! Seems to be a common theme here.
More Than This by Patrick Ness
This is a book that I always tell people that the less you know about it going in, the better. You start reading it expecting one thing, but it completely transforms into something else. It’s probably one of my favorite books of his, even if it isn’t the most popular. It’s something that I can read again and again.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Similar to Red, White, & Royal Blue, this book has a lot of heart melting moments. It’s also another one of those books that you can’t really put down once you’ve started it. The last time I was going to re-read it slowly, but then I read it all in one night. Oops? But that makes it the perfect cozy read!

I recently got The Perks of Being a Wallflower and now I really need to read it and finally watch that film adaption. I have also started working my way through Patrick Ness’ backlist after discovering him last year and need to get to this one in particular. Thank you! 🙂 It is one of my all time favorite books, for sure! As well as More Than This–there’s so much about it to love. Such a complex story that hooks you until the end.
