It’s January Wrap Up time! It seems the overall consensus is that January has taken forever. Which, it really has. I think just because of the way that it was spread out. Plus, I had a lot of stuff going on; I started a new position at the library, had a lot going on at Barnes and Noble, and I’m taking three classes. Is it Spring break yet? Because I’m definitely ready for that.
Anyway, I still made time for reading this month. One of my goals for the year is to reduce my unreadshelf by 50%. It might be kind of slow going, but I did read three this month! Progress is still progress. Overall, I read 13 books this month; not too shabby! Finished all my challenge books, too. I’m also starting a new challenge, #20LGBTQ, a focus to read 20 LGBTQ books in 2020. I’ve got to come up with a plan, but I’m stoked about it.
Reading Challenges
For the Unreadshelf Project, the prompt this month was any unread book. So, I read:
- On a Scale of 1 to 10 by Ceylan Scott
It was an ARC I picked up from work, and I’m glad I finally read it. An interesting perspective on mental health wards. My unreadshelf is now at 84 books! I’ll be keeping track of the number each month.
I’m doing the 2020 Read Harder challenge as well, which I had so much fun doing last year. It looks like there are a lot of great, diverse prompts for this years challenge, too.
- YA Nonfiction Book: The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater
- Retelling by an author of color: The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco
Both of these were audiobook listens, and both of them were fantastic! The 57 Bus was on my TBR for a long time; there was so much to love about it. The same with Rin Chupeco’s book. I hadn’t read any of her stuff before, but I will definitely check more of it out.
Other January Favorites
Outside of work and school, I haven’t watched much else, really. I did watch Marriage Story on Netflix, which I actually really enjoyed. The performances were amazing. Oh! I also watched Ad Astra, which was an interesting space movie; not what I was expecting. I also started Watchmen on HBO, but I haven’t gotten too far yet. More to come next month, hopefully!
