Welcome to April! A lot of reading challenges are being hosted this month, due to so many people being stuck inside. The Magical Readathon is a Harry Potter themed one, centered around wizarding exams! This first round is for OWLs. Basically, there are different prompts based on different Hogwarts subjects. You can pick your subjects based on career paths! It sounds super fun, and I’m not sure why I never joined in before. But this is my year!
I’ve chosen Hogwarts professor as my career path, and I’m concentrating in charms! This means that I’ll be reading at least 7 books this month for this readathon, maybe more. The Magical Readathon is hosted by Book Roast over on YouTube, and this is the third year it’s running. There’s a second part that’ll come this summer, so stay tuned!
Magical Readathon TBR
I’m going to mach the prompts with the books I’m planning on reading for them! It’s also going to knock a lot of books off my unread shelf.
Ancient Runes: Heart Rune (heart on the cover or in the title)
For this I’ll be reading Where the Heart Is by Jo Knowles. A middle grade fiction book I got from work a while ago; finally time to read it!
Arithmacy: Magical Qualities of Number 2, Balance/Opposites (read outside your favorite genre)
Lucky by Alice Sebold, who wrote The Lovely Bones. This is her memoir, but it’s outside my favorite genre because it’s nonfiction.
Charms: Lumos Maxima (book with a white cover)
I’ll be reading Winterwood by Shea Earnshaw, specifically the Owlcrate edition that has a white cover.
Defense Against the Dark Arts: Grindylows (book set at the sea/coast)
All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace, which is a book I also got from Owlcrate that I keep putting on my TBR and never reading. Guess it’s now or never!
Herbology: Mimbulus Mimbletonia (title stars with an M)
Most Likely by Sarah Watson. This was supposed to be the BN YA Book Club pick for this month, so I got it from the library. Still going to read it!
History of Magic: Witch Hunts (book featuring witches/wizards)
Song of the Crimson Flower by Julie C. Dao. This is an ARC I got in an exchange last fall and then promptly never read. Seems to be a theme for this readathon!
Muggle Studies: Book From a Muggle Perspective (contemporary)
I’ve got to review Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett before it comes out in May, so it’s the perfect fit for this challenge!
There are more prompts for the readathon, but these are currently the only ones I have planned. If I have time, I might look for books for the other prompts, too! We’ll see how April plays out. I also just learned that The Reading Rush is hosting a challenge mid-April (which I did last summer), so I might join in that, too! All the community reading challenges for the Month of April.
