Due to the current situation of the world, a lot of publication dates are being pushed back. But not all of them! There are a lot of great books that are still coming out in the next few months. In fact, there are a lot of books coming out that I can’t wait to read! Not that I need to add to my never ending list, but ’tis the life of a bookworm. That TBR list is always growing.
In life updates, I went back to work this week! We’re just doing projects around the store and filling curbside orders, but it’s been good. I’ve been organizing stuff and it’s just so satisfying. But I’m also tempted to buy more books. Which I guess could be considered a win-win.
Anyway, that means I’ll be able to get these books easier when they come out. Though some of them have already been pre-ordered. Without further ado, books I’m most looking forward to in the next few months.
Anticipated YA Releases
May 5: Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
The sequel to Aurora Rising which follows Squad 312 who just learned that an ancient evil is about to be unleashed. And they might be the only ones able to stop it. If you’re looking for more quirky space adventures from this dynamic duo, you’ll definitely want to dive into this series.
May 5: Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
Elizabeth Acevedo made her name in the YA realm with Poet X, which is a phenomenal audiobook if you’re looking for something to jump into! Following two girls after the death of their father, one in New York and one in the Dominican Rebpulic, and learning that he’s had plenty of secrets.
May 12: The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar
I’m actually doing a blog tour for this in May, which I’m super excited about! This book is being pitched as When Dimple Met Rishi meets Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, so of course I had to read it. It’s about balancing your religion and your sexuality and it sounds amazing!
May 19: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games prequel that I’ve been anxiously waiting for. Sure, it’s about President Snow, but I’m waiting to give judgement until I actually read the book. You can bet that this is one that I’ll be reading almost immediately when it comes out–and I’ll probably devour it in under a day.
June 2: Burn by Patrick Ness
Possibly my most anticipated book of the year, which I have an ARC of thanks to a friend! But I have yet to read it. I might have to do that soon, once I finish the readathons I’m currently participating in. It’s about dragons, rebellion, all set in the 1950s. What more could you want?
June 2: The State of Us by Shaun David Hutchinson
Shaun David Hutchinson’s books are always at the top of my list. They always make you think and question what’s really happening. This book includes demisexual representation (yay!) and it’s a little reminiscent of Red, White, & Royal Blue but for teens on opposing sides of an election. Obviously I need this now!
June 23: Girl, Unframed by Deb Caletti
Ever since reading A Heart in a Body in the World, Deb Caletti has been on my radar. This is a new thriller coming out this summer about the dangers of unwanted attention. As always, it looks to be a timely, important book to the YA conversation about consent.
