Another month over, and I actually read all the books on my TBR! It was a bit ambitious, but I did it. Though, I didn’t quite read as many books as I did in March. I’ve officially gone back to work at Barnes and Noble, just doing projects and organizing things for a few days a week. I think in May, we’ll slowly start to open things in stages. What that’s going to look like, I’m not sure! But it will probably feel good to get back to a somewhat normal schedule.
My goal for May is to read pretty much only books from my unread shelf, which I think is doable! Outside of the audiobooks that I borrow from the library. I’ve started another new series I’ve been meaning to get to, The Selection, and I think I’ll for sure be able to finish that up in May!
I also finished all the books for the Magical Readathon, just under the wire! Finished all my exams and can’t wait for the NEWT prompts later this year. Definitely looking forward to that. All in all, I read 23 books this month. I think 20 books per month is going to be my average!
Reading Challenges
Besides finishing all the books for the Magical Readathon, I also finished the prompts for the challenges I’ve been doing. This month, the Undread Shelf prompt was most recently acquired. So, I read:
- The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu
It’s about Mozart’s sister and her struggles with not being able to be in the musical spotlight like her brother was. But there’s also a magical she escapes into, and it’s honestly a beautifully written book.
For the Read Harder Challenge, I also knocked a book off my unread shelf:
- Historical fiction not set in WWII: Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai
- Audiobook of poetry: Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
Inside Out & Back Again is a book that I’ve owned for ages about the Vietnam War. Definitely worth all the praise that it got! Long Way Down is re-listen, but if you haven’t listened to it, do it now! Jason Reynolds narrates it himself and it’s wonderfully done.
Other April Favorites
Thinking back, I think I only watched one movie this month: Onward. Which was absolutely a wonderful movie! I definitely recommend it if you play Dungeons & Dragons because it really reflects that game. But also, Tom Holland is one of the voices in it, so I had to watch it. My sister and I are still watching Westworld; we’re almost done with season 2 and things are getting crazy! I think we’ll probably finish it next month.
Oh, we’re also watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which is hilarious! I can’t believe I’ve never gotten into this show before. My mom and I are also almost done with the Schitt’s Creek that’s on Netflix; we might have to try to find a way to steam the last season before Netflix releases it.
There are a couple of other shows that I’d like to watch at some point, specifically The Golden Compass and Big Little Lies.
