As usual, when I’m in a blogging slump, I look to book tags for inspiration! There are a lot of them on the internet, and they’re a really fun way to get to know the blogger. Since my classes started last week, I’ve felt a little burned out creatively. It also feels a little too early to do a post about my Pride Month Reading plans, but stay tuned! That will be a post coming soon.
This is the Coffee Book Tag created by Alyssa @ Reading, Reading, Reading. As a lover of coffee and books, this sounded like it was right up my alley! A bit about my coffee preferences: iced coffee over hot any day, and white mochas for when I need a little sweet treat. But really, I could drink iced coffee all the time. It’s my favorite!
Coffee Book Tag
1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. This trilogy is so hyped, and it’s one of those that you have to make it through the first book for it to pick up. In fact, the things that everyone gushes about don’t even happen until the second book. If you’re just getting into it, stick it out! The second book is worth it.
2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.
The first one that comes to mind is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, for obvious reasons. Christmas! But I also think Harry Potter gets really popular around fall/Halloween time because it’s the perfect fall read or re-read. It just fits perfectly for that time of year!
3. Hot chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?
Picture book: I Yam a Donkey by Cece Bell. This book takes a hilarious twist on grammar, and it’s much underappreciated. A yam and a donkey arguing about grammar–what isn’t to love? I think I’ll also have to put Harry Potter here, though. It did so much for children’s literature as a whole how can you not mention it?
4. Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I actually just re-read this because a friend of mine is reading it and I said I’d read it along with her! But I forgot how fast-paced this series is. Right from the beginning, Todd is on the run without really knowing why. You get it in bits and pieces throughout, but the not knowing keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
5. Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, and subsequently, Wayward Son. Not only is this one of my favorite books, it’s also a favorite of the bookstagram community. And there’s going to be a third book coming out in the near future! Which I’m sure will get just as much hype.
6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shout out.
The Brighton Duology by Liz Long, which is a series I got the chance to review about two years ago! It’s a YA dystopian series about inequality and something more sinister going on behind the scenes. Definitely check it out!
7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.
The Selection by Kiera Cass. These books are so hyped and talked about the internet and they felt too dramatic to me. It’s basically a YA dystopian version of The Bachelor, but nothing really happens? It’s mostly a back and forth for America deciding what she wants. I wish more had happened!
8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. There are heart melting moments and moments that are heart wrenching. Basically, an emotional roller coaster! And really necessary before you read the second half of the Mortal Instruments series.

I love your answers to the questions from this tag! Thanks for participating! I, too, am in a blogging (and reading) slump as a result of school, but hopefully we will both get out of it quickly and get back to reading more great books! ❣
