Happy Hunger Games release day! May the odds be ever in your favor. You know, for getting your copy. I know there’s been a bit of controversy surrounding this book, as a lot of people aren’t happy that it’s about President Snow. But after re-reading the trilogy, I think there’s a lot of interesting things we’re going to learn about this period of Panem. Still holding out for a book about Haymitch, though. I would definitely read that in a heartbeat!
Anyway, scrolling through Twitter yesterday, I came across this book tag. I thought it was perfect for today’s release. The Hunger Games book tag was created by Jess @ Comfort Reads. Let’s take a little trip down memory lane!
The Hunger Games Book Tag
What’s your favorite book?
This is a tough one! Each book has things that I really like about it, like Katniss’s snark in the first book or her connection with Peeta in the second book. I think I’m going to have to go with Catching Fire, though. It definitely makes a good bridge between the trilogy being about the Hunger Games and transitioning to the revolution in the last book.
How long would you last in the Hunger Games?
Probably not very long, if we’re being honest. I’ve been running recently, so at least I have that going for me. Maybe I could find a hiding place and just last until the end. That would probably be my plan.
What is the strangest thing you thought happened in the books?
Maybe not strange in terms of it not fitting with the plot, but the mutts were always my least favorite thing. I understand the necessity of them and they’re important to show the twisted nature of the Capitol, but I just don’t like them.
How were you introduced to the Hunger Games?
In middle and high school, I was a part of a book club run by our school librarians. We would get to read advance copies of books to help give them a teen’s perspective for some of the award committees they were on. We got an advance copy of this book and it went through almost everyone in the club. None of us could stop talking about it.
Favorite moment that happens in the Hunger Games?
Some of my favorite moments come from Catching Fire, when Katniss and Peeta go back into the Games. There are some really tender moments between them, and I think this is when Katniss really realizes how much she cares for him. Which makes Mockingjay even sadder.
Favorite villain?
Going to have to go with Coin on this one. No one really realizes she’s the villain until close to the end of Mockingjay, though there are hints throughout the book. Because we’re reading from Katniss’s point of view, some of the narration in this book is unreliable. But she’s almost as manipulative as Snow is.
Who is your favorite character?
Peeta, hands down. I have loved him from the beginning and he’s just such a loveable character. Also the fact that Katniss believes that he could have killed her is a bit comical. He doesn’t seem like he could hurt a fly.
What District would you live in?
I love forests and nature, so probably District 7. The lumber District!
Most emotional moment?
The end scene when Katniss finally is forced to accept that Prim is gone. I can’t read the ending of Mockingjay without crying. Or watch the ending of the movie. Katniss is just so devastated.
What item from home would you take into the arena?
I think I would take some item of jewelry that was important to me or connected me to home in some way. That way I would feel connected to family even in moments of danger.
Most evil plan some made in the books?
While Peeta being hijacked was absolutely terrible, the bombs at the end were the worst. Especially because it’s pretty clear that it’s something that the revolution did, hurting their own people and killing children at that. How is that any different than the Capitol? Learning this definitely shows Katniss that she has to do something to stop that rise to power, too.
Favorite part of the movie?
The moment in Mockingjay when the rebels use the Hanging Tree song to blow up the dam, which is why they’re able to rescue the Victors from the Capitol. That whole sequence just gives me chills every time I watch it.
