We’re about midway through the Reading Rush! I’ve finished 2.5 books so far, which isn’t bad. On track to read all the books I’ve planned out for the week! I’ll be sure to have a complete wrap up next week once the readathon is completely over. For today, I’m going to do the Racing to Read book tag created by the gang at the Reading Rush! It’s supposed to be a vlog, but I’m doing in a blog form instead. Feel free to take it and make it your own.
Also, I realize I haven’t done many reviews lately, which I need to change! I’ve gotten a few review copies and I’m going to be a part of a blog tour in August. I’ll get back on the review train shortly!
Racing to Read Book Tag
Warm Up: A book that stretches your mind?
How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. There’s so much in this book that we don’t think about on a day to day basis that instigates racism. Kendi is also an engaging writer, making you think about how we interact with people in a variety of instances.
Start Line: What’s a book that you started but never finished?
I finish pretty much every book I start. However, Inland by Tea Obreht fits this category for me. It was a Barnes and Noble Book Club book last summer, and basically no one finished it. It was just too slow moving for me and I couldn’t get into the story.
Sprint: A book you read really quickly?
The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta. This is a book in verse, and I tend to zoom through those. That doesn’t make it any less effective, though. There are some absolutely gorgeous poems in this book that is worth all the praise that it got.
Marathon: What’s your favorite long book?
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Even though I listened to this on audiobook, it’s one of my favorite longer books. There’s so much in this story and it’s told in such a unique way. I might need to re-read it at some point!
Hurdles: What’s a book that had ups and downs?
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. Overall, I did enjoy this book. But the plot went back and forth throughout the book that it lulled at times. By the end of the book, however, it all came together in a way that I wasn’t expecting.
Finish Line: A book you were proud to finish?
Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi. I just finished this last week, and it was definitely worth the read. There’s so much about our history that we’re not taught in school. It’s a long book, though! It felt good to come to the end.
Gold Medal: Best book you’ve read during a readathon?
Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I read it last year for the Reading Rush and it’s now one of my favorite books. Seriously, it’s just one of those books that make you happy when you read it. I’m hoping Boyfriend Material will have a similar effect this year.
Participation Ribbon: An underrated book you wish got more attention?
More Than This by Patrick Ness. I feel like this is one of Ness’s more underrated books, but it’s so amazing. It’s one of those books that transforms while you read it, and you don’t end up in the place you expect. Such a great read!
