Happy Wednesday! It’s been a while since I’ve done a Top 5 Wednesday post, but I’m trying to get back into it! The last one I did was in March, about my favorite audiobooks! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I do character playlists at the beginning of every month. This week’s prompt is about bookish songs! I’ve chosen to do the top five songs that remind me of books. This should be fun!
Top 5 Wednesday is a meme with weekly topics posted in this Goodreads group. Gabriela (Violent Hawthorne) has created the topics for the last two months!
Top 5 Bookish Songs
1. “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys
A little bit on the nose, but obviously this makes me think of The Hunger Games. Katniss earns that nickname after the first tribute parade, and it sticks with her for the rest of the series. It is the perfect song for Katniss, and exactly why I included it in this playlist I made for her! Seriously, creating playlists for books is so satisfying.
2. “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen
For those of you that have red Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, you know exactly why this song is on this list. This is one of the moments that makes Alex fall in love with Henry, and it’s such a happy moment in the book. Just listening to this song makes me want to read this book again!
3. “Asleep” by The Smiths
Charlie becomes obsessed with this song in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is one of my all-time favorite books. So, whenever I hear this song, I can’t help but this of this book. Honestly, whenever I hear the Smiths at all, I just think of this book. And it honestly fits it so perfectly!
4. “Keep Ya Head Up” by Tupac
Tupac plays a large part of the plot in The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and honestly, in Angie Thomas’s own life. It’s such an important part of the book that I’ll forever correlate the two. Music is such a large part of her second book, On the Come Up, and I love how Thomas incorporates this into her stories. It gives the books an authentic feel.
5. “The Biggest Lie” by Elliott Smith
Simon Spier from Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli is known as the biggest Elliott Smith fan. So it makes sense that whenever I hear an Elliott Smith song, I’m transported to this book. Honestly, there’s a lot of great music referenced in those books, so it’s difficult to pick just one!

its really cool when books mention songs in them, because its like they have their own soundtrack. its also probably time that i reread perks.

So true! I love it when they do that. 🙂
