Considering I’ve read almost 300 books in 2020, I’d say I have a lot of books to be thankful for. But there were some books that were just needed this year. Or they connected me with new people. So many great books came out this year (and there are going to be even more next year!) I’m going to have to start getting pickier about the books I own because I’m going to run out of room.
The five books listed here made an impact on me in 2020. Of course, they’re ones that I’m sure to include on my re-read list. I know those are definitely the books worth keeping. There are too many great books I read in 2020 to list here, but watch for wrap up posts starting next month! I’m going to start highlighting my favorites of the year.

Five Books I’m Thankful For
1. Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
When it comes down to it, I think this is going to end up on a lot of my “best of” lists for the year. As someone who reads for character, this book is phenomenal. The characters latch onto your heart and don’t let go. And the ending! Aiden Thomas has quickly become a new favorite author for me. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
2. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
What a warm hug of a book this is! Linus is adorable, and Arthur and the family even more so. I loved that this book was about found family and finding a place to be happy. It’s so unassuming at first, but you can feel how much the characters care for each other. Seriously, this is a book that should be on everyone’s shelf. Who doesn’t need more happy in 2020?
3. You Should See Me In a Crown by Leah Johnson
If we’re talking about happy books, this one needs to be on the list, too! Notably, this is a cute romantic comedy centered around a prom queen competition. What isn’t to love? Honestly, I would be so happy if this book gets adapted into a movie. It would make a fabulous movie! Netflix, make this your next big thing, please.
4. Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender
Kacen Callender won big with their book King and Dragonflies this year. It won the National Book Award! Or one of them, anyway. Also I listened to this one on audiobook and I loved the narrator. It fit the story particularly well. I can’t wait to pick up King and Dragonflies because I’m sure it will be just as good!
5. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab
I know most everyone loved this book (though not everyone), and I know I did. It’s so emotional and vulnerable. I particularly liked the parts with Henry, as his story felt the most compelling to me. Although, Addie’s story is really emotional. A toss up! Either way, I’m going to re-read this just for some of the gorgeous passages Schwab created.
