We’re getting back to a blogging schedule again! Yay! My plan for 2021 is to be more consistent, which should be easier now that I don’t have classes anymore. Which also means I’ll be a certified librarian soon! Double yay! Steadily working my way toward my professional goals, and I’m so happy about it. I’ve got some things planned for next year, both blog and Etsy related, and I can’t wait.
It’s Top Ten Tuesday! Today we’re focusing on books set in winter, since the first day of winter is coming next week! I know a lot of people don’t like winter, but I do. I love being cozy with hot beverages and super fuzzy blankets. It’s the best! These ten books will make you want to cuddle and read them in the most cozy of spots.
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently run by The Artsy Reader Girl. Check out my last one here!

Books Set in Winter
1. Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
It’s said that the woods surrounding Fir Haven are haunted. Only Nora Walker, and the Walker women that came before her, know the truth. They have always had a magical connection to the woods. When a boy, Oliver, goes missing, it’s Nora who finds him in the woods. But something about his presence makes the woods uneasy. And it’s up to Nora to find out why. Mysterious, magical, and snowy; perfect for the first day of winter.
2. Blankets by Craig Thompson
A coming-of-age graphic novel, Craig and Raina fall in love at a winter church camp. They connect over their dreams of escape, revealing their fears that they’ve never revealed to anyone else. But their relationship hits a rocky road as their personal demons come to the surface. Beautifully illustrated, Thompson hits the quiet nature of winter, folded into this first relationship story.
3. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Grace has always loved watching the wolves in her backyard, especially the one yellow-eyed one that she feels like she can’t live without. Meanwhile, Sam lives two lives–one as a human, one as a wolf. When he’s human for the summer months, he falls for Grace. Now, he must fight the cold in order to stay human.
4. Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle
When a winter storm hits Gracetown on Christmas Eve, everyone’s plans spiral out of control. A trio of short stories chronicles events from the storm, from racing to Waffle House to taking short cuts to get off stranded trains. These three stories are sure to get you in a wintery, and even a holiday, mood!
5. Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
Lily leaves a red notebook with her favorite challenges in it for an unsuspecting person to pick up. Dash, in a bad mood about the holidays, is the one to pick it up. This leads to a whirlwind holiday romance full of adventures in the city. Bonus: this is a new Netflix adaptation, so you can binge it all just in time for the holidays.
6. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
This is one of those books that appeals to a large age range, but it’s also a quintessential winter story. When Lucy stumbles upon Narnia, they are in an eternal winter. It turns out that her and her siblings are the ones that are foretold to end it. A magical classic that’s always sure to please.
7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Narrated by Death, this book starts in Germany in 1939 just as the Nazis were taking power. Liesel carves out a living for herself by stealing books, books that are about to be burned. With the help of her foster dad, she learns to read, sharing her books with the Jewish man they’re hiding in their basement. I honestly can’t remember if this whole book is set in winter, but at least parts of it are!
8. We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
Marin hasn’t talked to anyone from her past since moving to college. No one knows what really happened the last few weeks before she left. Now, Marin is alone in her dorm for winter break, anxiously awaiting her best friend Mabel’s arrival. Because once Mabel gets there, Marin will be forced to face everything she’s been running from.
9. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
I can’t remember is this is totally set in winter, but I definitely remember snow. So I’m counting it! Elisabeth was raised in the Great Library, knowing that all sorcerers are evil. When the library’s most dangerous magic is released, Elisabeth is blamed. In order to clear her name, she has to pair up with sorcerer Nathaniel before it’s too late.
10. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
During WWII, four refugees are desperate to find safety. Haunted by tragedy, they are each making their way to the Wilhelm Gustloff, a ship giving passage to war refugees. But little do they know that more tragedy is around the corner. Their freedom might come at a higher cost than they could ever imagine.
