Hello friends! I honestly keep forgetting that it’s 2021. That always happens at the beginning of the year. We’ll get there eventually! I haven’t yet done a reading goals post for 2021, so that’s what today’s post is going to be about. I’ve made them kind of vague, to hopefully make them easier to obtain. My hopes for 2021 are mostly related to reading more diverse and pushing myself to read outside of my box!
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently run by The Artsy Reader Girl. Check out my last one here!
Hopes for 2021
1. Read at least 50% from BIPOC authors
I almost got to this last year, I was so close! I think I read like 40%. One of the ways I’m working on this is through creating some spreads in my bullet journal. Also: looking to read these in a variety of genres! If you have suggestions, definitely leave them in the comments.
2. Read 200 books
While I read 314 books last year, I always like to err on the lower side just in case. You never know what can happen in a year. I mean, just look at everything that happened in 2020.
3. Finish 2 Spider-Man story lines
I’ve been trying to read through Spider-Man blacklist comics for about the last 3 years, but I still feel like I haven’t made a dent. There’s just so many! I want to re-focus my goal of reading though these story lines for this year, also including Miles Morales because I started that last year, too!
4. Reduce unread shelf by 50%
I actually almost did this last year, too! I started the year at about 80 and ended up at 56. It’s not exactly half, but I did also buy books during the year, too. Overall, my focus on this has really helped in reducing the amount of unread books I have!
5. Complete the Read Native challenge
The American Indian Library Association is starting a Read Native challenge this year which I’m super excited about! It will definitely help with the first goal I listed here!
6. Read more queer stories
Even though it felt like it, I didn’t do quite as well with this as I did reading POC authors. This is something I’m definitely going to be more aware of this year too, especially focusing on that intersection between race and sexuality. Because that’s not talked about nearly enough!
7. Blog more consistently
I got pretty good at this by the end of 2020, but the middle of the year kind of went to the wayside. I’ll like to include a bit more variety in posts too, so I have some things up my sleeve!
8. Create more graphics
On Instagram, I always see some really cool graphics, connecting books and the like. I’d like to be able to make some of those for my blog, and maybe even Instagram!
9. Curate my Etsy shop
I have an Etsy shop, but life got so busy that I don’t do much to promote it. This is something I want to change in 2021! Add more products and focus on including more posts about it, maybe here but definitely on Pinterest.
10. (Maybe) Make a YouTube channel
One of the things I’ve been doing a lot lately is recording book talk videos! This is something I think I would really enjoy doing on my own YouTube channel. We’ll see if it’s something I actually do or no!
