Back last year, I said I was going to start these posts and then never continued. I did a Parks and Rec one and that was it. But I want to bring it back! It’s fun to image what our favorite TV characters are going to read. Since I’m coming off a Schitt’s Creek re-watch, I though I’d start there! They kind of double as book recommendations, too. If you love these shows, you might just find a new book to read.
I just started another re-watch of The Office, which is one of my all-time favorite shows. It’s also one of my TV show rotations that I watch when I just want to watch something comforting. Sitcoms are definitely the best for that!

Schitt’s Creek Reads YA
David Rose: You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
David’s tricky because I think he would love books that make him look pretentious, but I think he would also love rom-coms. David is a romantic at heart and would swoon after some of these great LGBTQ+ rom-coms.
Alexis Rose: Influence by Sara Shepard
Alexis would definitely be attracted to drama filled young adult books, all about scandal. Sara Shepard’s latest is a twisty mystery about teen influencers, which Alexis would definitely relate to. Especially since she ends up eventually going into the influencing business.
Moira Rose: One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus
Moira would be all about the popular thriller fiction, wanting to be a part of what everyone else was reading. Reading the popular fiction would also mean keeping her eye out for the next big movie/TV show to be a part of. And, she would love the drama in these books!
Johnny Rose: Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different by Karen Blumenthal
Being the business man that he is, Johnny would definitely read different business bios to up his game. Especially since he spends a lot of the show trying to find his next thing. This would be just the inspiration he needs.
Stevie Budd: The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
Stevie was almost always reading a book at the motel, and I think she would especially like Jeff Zentner. This one is about a group of small town teens looking for possibly a way out. Or looking for a place where they fit in and find fulfillment. Just like Stevie does in later seasons.
Ted Mullens: Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger
Being a vet, Ted would go for any books with animal friends. Especially those where the animal friends don’t die. Elatsoe has a ghost dog companion, and he’s one of the best aspects of the book. Plus, I think Ted would get engrossed in the mystery as well!
Patrick Brewer: Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
Patrick would absolutely love those cute teen romances, especially if the main characters happened to be gay. I think he would relate to the main relationship in this book, being timid like Nick, scared to be himself. His heart would melt just like all of ours did!
Roland Schitt: Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
While Roland wouldn’t necessarily be a reader, he would probably stick to the classics that he knows. Actually, the books he read in high school might have been the last books that he read. He’d love the outdoorsy sports books, for sure.
Jocelyn Schitt: Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett
Jocelyn would definitely love cute romance novels. They’d be like little escapes for her, and I’m sure she’d have a collection of romance novels on her shelf. And Jenn Bennett writes some of the best teen romances!
Twyla Sands: What I Carry by Jennifer Longo
Twyla is very much someone who forges her own way and doesn’t rely on anyone else. And from her random comments throughout the show, she might not have the best family history. She’d definitely relate Muir, the main character in this book, determined to make her own way.
DB @ DB's Guide to the Galaxy says
I’m actually on a partial rewatch because I was early Season 3 and paused to watch other things and then couldn’t remember certain things, so decided to go back and am now in S2 😂😂 but I know most things, so that’s totally fine. I loved this post!! David would totally be into acting like he only reads ‘the highest shelf of fiction’ and I laughed at reading that Moira would read books that would be adapted into film or tv so she could act in it 😂
