Hello everyone! It’s a bit of a late post today because I was at my sister’s recital for most of the day. But I’m back now! And did quite a bit of reading for Week of 4/3. Even though it felt like this week dragged on forever, honestly. A never-ending week. Next week will seem pretty long too, since I work basically every day. Hopefully that won’t happen for much longer.
For the week of 4/3, I read a total of 8 books! A good chunk of them were graphic novels/manga, and I also read quite a bit at the desk at work because we were slow this week. Unusual for spring break, but I was mostly okay with it.
Bite Size Reviews: Week of 4/3
One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake (4/5)
This volume picks up with Mirabella, Katharine, and Arsinoe fighting for the throne. Who will come out on top? I don’t want to say too much so I don’t spoil the first one, but the structure was much the same here. Overall, the book is pretty slow moving, and all the action happens in the last quarter of the book. There’s always that hook that will keep you going to the next book, though, and a great hook it was! (3 stars)
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston (4/6)
I already wrote a review for this, but I will gush about it here too. This is McQuiston’s follow up to Red, White, & Royal Blue and it was such a great follow up. I loved the found family in this one, so much. It makes me miss being able to hang out with friends. I can’t wait to have a finished copy of this, honestly! (5 stars)
Where the Road Leads Us by Robin Reul (4/6)
Jack decides to track down his brother before leaving for college, while Hallie wants to see a friend before he passes away. When their paths cross, adventures ensue. Adventures that make both of them rethink their futures. This is another one I wrote a review for this week, and it was a fun ride! I enjoyed the overall story and the characters for sure (3.5 stars).
Wakanda Forever by Nnedi Okorafor (4/6)
This is one of those repackaged comic books for middle grade readers, following the story of Shuri. When her brother goes missing in space, Shuri has to take up the Black Panther mantel once again to save Wakanda. There are some great appearances in this book, like Miles Morales and Kamala Khan. Their team-up was one of my favorite parts of this volume, for sure! (4 stars)
A Man and His Cat, volumes 1, 2, & 3 by Umi Sakuri (4/7)
I picked these up for my sister for her birthday, so naturally I read them before giving them to her. It’s about a cat who is finally adopted by a middle-aged man. And their relationship is so cute! Any cat owners will definitely relate to the situations that both get into. Plus, did I mention how cute this is? Because it’s just adorable. I loved all three volumes! (5 stars)
The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky (4/8)
A full review for this will be coming next week! So, just a few thoughts here. This is about a club at a school who plays pranks, but the pranks go a bit too far. While I could guess some of the plot points coming in this book, it was still a page turner. I definitely wanted to see exactly how it would play out. Definitely a twisty thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat! (4 stars)
