We’re back with another TV character post! Today, I’m going to be making book recommendations based on the characters from New Girl. Which is one of my all-time favorite shows! It’s just one of those shows that I know I’ll laugh at no matter how many times I watch it. The characters are just fun and ridiculous and they’re relatable. I think they’ll be fun to come up with book recommendations for!
If you have recommendations for shows I should do in the future, let me know in the comments!

If New Girl Read YA
Jessica Day: My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand
Jess is 100% a feminist, and I think she would love these feminist re-tellings of classics. Plus, they’re hilarious and would definitely fit her personality. This installment is a re-telling of Jane Eyre, giving Jane a lot more autonomy than she had in the original story. Plus, there are ghosts! This series is still going, and I’m sure Jess would love every one.
Nick Miller: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
In the later seasons of the show, Nick becomes a published author. He actually writes and publishes his zombie novel, which actually fits in the YA genre. To get inspiration, he’d definitely be into some other YA zombie novels. Especially if they had more of a humor twist, like this one does!
Schmidt: Game Changer by Neal Shusterman
Schmidt is a lot like the main character in this book. He thinks he knows everything about being bullied and oppressed because he was when he was younger. But, there’s actually a lot that he doesn’t know. I feel like Schmidt gets a little better by the end of the series, but he’s definitely still kind of a know it all.
Winston Bishop: Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper
We all know how much Winston loves his cat. I mean, there’s even an episode where he sets up a date for Furguson, which leads to all sorts of miscommunication. As a fellow cat lover, I definitely get it. But Winston would be out there looking for all sorts of books that he could share with Furguson, especially this inspirational story! Bonus recommendation: A Man and His Cat by Umi Sakurai
Cece: The Marvelous Mirza Girls by Sheba Karim
Outside of modeling, Cece doesn’t really know what she wants to do with her life, just like Noreen in The Marvelous Mirza Girls! Plus, Cece is funny just like she is. She might not want to be a writer, but the two also have epic love stories and won’t stand for injustice. A perfect connection between the two!
Coach: After the Shot Drops by Randy Ribay
We all know that Coach would be all about those sports stories, especially if they had to do with basketball. He’s always trying to inspire his roommates to be healthier and more active, especially Nick. These kinds of stories would definitely help his case. There are also a lot of great sports stories to choose from!
Aly Nelson: Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Aly would definitely be reading any books that have badass female protagonists. Graceling would be right up there because Katsa is sort of like law enforcement in her world. I think Aly would love this story and any other YA book with strong female protagonists just like this.
