Summary
When Jo first sees a dog walking around with a basket and doing grocery shopping, she’s curious. So, she follows him around to each of his stops. However, that means she’s accidentally mistaken as his owner–and doesn’t correct anyone. She hopes that Pawcasso will help her to make new friends. Because otherwise summer will be pretty boring without them.
But not everyone is comfortable with Pawcasso doing shopping on his own. The town soon becomes divided on whether or not Pawcasso should be allowed to roam free. Jo worries that with all the attention, her lies will become exposed. And she’ll lose all the friends she’s made.
Review: Pawcasso
Thanks to Macmillan for sending me an advanced copy of this to review! I’ve been on a quest to read more middle grade fiction this year, and this fits the bill. It’s one of the many great middle grade graphic novels to come out this year!
This is an adorable graphic novel that I’m sure kids will love. Lai does a great job with bringing these characters for life, and even though you know Jo’s lies are going to catch up with her, you’re still secretly hoping she’ll get away with it. Plus, who doesn’t like reading about a cute dog that does his own grocery shopping?
The art is bright and reflects the story within the book. It’s colorful and fun, in the style that you see a lot of middle grade graphic novels in. When it comes out on the 25th, it will definitely jump off the shelf!
All in all, this was such a fun read, and I can’t wait to recommend it to patrons at the library!
Favorite Fictional Dogs
Since I’m a part of the blog tour for this book, I thought it would be fun to do a little list of our favorite fictional dogs! Even though I’m a cat person, I can admit dogs are cute and fun to have around. Even if I’d rather snuggle with my cat instead.
Snoopy: Snoopy was always getting into some kind of trouble in the comics, whether it’s inventing something or building on his little house. Definitely a classic!
Winn-Dixie: It’s been awhile since I read this book or watched this movie, but Winn-Dixie will always have a special place in my heart. He brings light to everyone he meets, which is the best kind of quality in a dog!
Shiloh: Shiloh becomes a loyal friend to Marty, who runs away from his real owner who abuses him. I remember reading this and loving it as a kid, too!
Clifford: Who didn’t love Clifford as a kid? I remember watching this show when I was younger, and Clifford is just a great friend. Plus, it’s fun imagining having a giant red dog!
Lassie: Obviously, when thinking about fictional dogs, Lassie immediately comes to mind. He’s a loyal dog, ready to protect his family at all costs.
