Hello friends! We’re at the end of another week, once again. Today we had our first in-person program at the library where I work, and it went well! We got a lot of excitement for summer reading, I think. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings. Maybe it will even bring with it a full-time job at some point. We’ll see! Anyway, for the Week of 6/5, I read a total of 9 books. I’m currently reading 4 books, and that’s what most of the week has been like.
Bite Size Reviews: Week of 6/5
Wolfsong by TJ Klune (6/5)
When Ox was 12, his father left and told him he was worthless. It had just been him and his mom for years until he met the boy at the end of the road when he was 16. The boy who introduced him to a new world. And eventually, to tragedy. I don’t know the last time that I finished a book in one night, but I stayed up last Saturday to finish this one. The characters in this book just leap off the page. And the emotions! I just couldn’t put this book down (5 stars).
Miles Morales: Shock Waves by Justin A. Reynolds (6/6)
A new middle grade graphic novel from Marvel staring Miles, a kid who’s trying to juggle school, family, and being Spider-Man. When a new student’s father goes missing, Miles decides that he has to help. But there are connections to Miles’ family life, too. The art in this graphic novel is fantastic! Plus, you all know that I love Miles and Spider-Man. These middle grade graphic novels are absolutely perfect (4 stars).
Yesterday Is History by Kosoko Jackson (6/7)
After getting a much needed liver transplant, Andre suddenly finds that he has the ability to time travel. Back in 1969, he meets a boy and falls in love. But he also might be falling for someone in his own time. A complicated love triangle ensues, leaving Andre unsure about his own future. I listened to this on audio, and it’s fantastic. The premise of this book is unique and easy to get pulled into. I didn’t want to stop listening, honestly. Andre and his voice were so engaging (4 stars).
The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe (6/8)
As the daughter of a con-artist, Nora has been a lot different girls. When her and her friend, Wes, and her girlfriend, Iris, get stuck in a bank robbery, Nora will have to rely on those skills to get them out. Told with flashbacks throughout to give Nora’s backstory, this is a quick read and one that hooks you. A thriller that has twists and turns and is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time (4 stars).
Moonstruck Volumes 1-3 by Grace Ellis (6/9)
Julie is a werewolf who is extremely self-conscious. After going on a date to a close-up magic school with her girlfriend and her friend Chet, chaos ensues. This is a cute graphic novel series! Chet was my favorite, seriously. They make the entire series, and I would read a comic just about them. I basically read all three volumes in one sitting and can’t wait for more (4 stars).
Fire with Fire by Destiny Soria
I already wrote a full review for this one, so just a few thoughts here! This was a unique dragon story, something that isn’t seen a lot in the YA lit in the world. The relationship between Dani and Nox was the best, and not just because I have a cat named Nox (4 stars).
Namesake by Adrienne Young (6/10)
The sequel to Fable, which finds Fable as a pawn in the scheme of a notorious thug. As she tries to make things work, she learns more secrets about her own past, which might help her future. While this isn’t my favorite series, it’s one that people rave about on Instagram. Young is great at writing description, but there’s just something about the characters that I don’t connect with (3 stars).
