Maybe this is cheating because the characters in this show are teenagers, but oh well. Love, Victor is definitely a feel good show, even if there’s a bit of teen drama. I love all of the characters in this show! They’re all just trying to figure it out, and it just has such a YA feel. I wish the seasons were just a little longer.
If you’ve been following along with me, I’ve been doing a series of TV characters reading YA. I really enjoy writing these posts, so I might have to get creative in the future. We’ll probably have to move on from comedies and into other genres.

If Love Victor Read YA
Victor: The Summer of Everything by Julian Winters
At the beginning of the show, Victor reaches out to Simon for advice in dating, coming out, etc. So, I definitely think he’d be looking for other gay romances. This is a summer romance featuring Wes who’s in love with his best friend. And also trying to save his favorite indie bookstore.
Mia: Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant
I’d like to think Mia would be a fan of swoony romances. Especially if those romances featured a friends to lovers trope. Tessa doesn’t feel like the protagonists in the stories she writes. So, to get out of her writers block, she decides to put herself out there. As she checks things off her romance list, she realizes that it might not be what she wants after all.
Felix: Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert
In the second season, we learn a lot more about Felix and his home life, especially his mom. A book that shows a character dealing with a family member that also has bipolar disorder. Suzette’s stepbrother has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, one of the reasons she thinks she wants to stay in LA rather than go back to boarding school.
Lake: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Lake wants a relationship, to be on the same level as her best friend Mia. She would definitely swoon for Jenny Han’s books, especially this one! When Lara Jean’s old letters to her crushes get sent out, she finds herself in a predicament. Suddenly, her love life goes from imaginary to completely out of control.
Benji: Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
Benji is really into music, like Leah is in this book! However, Benji doesn’t appear to struggle with coming out like Leah does. I think he would definitely relate to her pursuits in music though, and wanting to keep his friend group together. There are a lot of parallels between these two characters! Maybe they’ll meet sometime in the show.
Andrew: After the Shot Drops by Randy Ribay
For most of the show, Andrew is definitely an athlete. One of the best athletes on the basketball team. Nasir’s best friend Sunny gets an athletic scholarship across town, which means Nasir spends more time with his cousin, Wallace. Doing so shows Nasir who really needs the neighborhood’s help.
Pilar: The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
Pilar is a teenager who is rebelling against her parents. She doesn’t feel like her parents understand her. A similar thing happens in The Poet X, which means that Pilar would relae to Xiomara. Xiomara, who is into poetry. I think Pilar could get into poetry at some point, too, being into theater, art, and drama.
