I missed a week of these, so my apologies! Last weekend just got away from me. But I’m back with another round up of reviews! A day late, but who’s counting. I was out of town for most of the weekend, so we’re going to use that as an excuse. Anyway, for the Week of 6/26, I read a total of 9 books. I actually got to a lot of audiobooks this week, which was great!
Bite Size Reviews: Week of 6/26
This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron (6/27)
I already wrote a review of this last week, so just a few thoughts here! This was such a unique, immersive book. It matches the lush cover and I can’t wait to see where this story goes. Because there is going to be a second book! (4 stars).
Anger Is a Gift by Mark Oshiro (6/28)
After the murder of his father at the hands of Oakland police 6 years ago, Moss suffers from severe panic attacks and PTSD. In his sophomore year of high school, he and his fellow students are being treated like criminals at school. So Moss and his friends are going to do something about it. This is such a powerful book, and extremely relevant to everything that’s happened in the last year. I also highly recommend the audiobook! (5 stars).
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune (6/29)
I’ve already written about this book before, but held a readalong for it on Instagram for the month of June! Honestly, reading it for a second time just made me so happy. It was just the book hug that I needed in June. I can’t wait to read it again next year! (5 stars).
Flash Fire by TJ Klune (6/30)
Another one that I wrote a review for! I loved this book. The characters and the found family in it are just great. Plus, it’s hilarious. There are so many moments where I laughed out loud in this book. I can’t wait for it to be out so everyone can read it! (5 stars).
Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo (6/30)
After the events of King of Scars, Ravka is once again on the brink of war. It’s up to Nikolai, Zoya, and Nina to save it. I don’t want to say much else because spoilers, but I’ve decided this is my 3rd favorite Grishaverse book. Crooked Kingdom and Six of Crows are my top two reads, and this book really brings everything together. By the end, I just couldn’t put it down (4.5 stars).
Turtle in Paradise: The Graphic Novel by Jennifer L. Holm (7/1)
This is a middle grade graphic novel adaptation of the novel with the same title. I haven’t read the original book, but this historical fiction story is so endearing. Turtle is just trying to find a place where she belongs, and make ends meet for her and her mother. At the end of the book, there’s historical informaiton included, which will be really helpful for middle grade readers (4 stars).
We Are Inevitable by Gayle Forman (7/2)
Gayle Forman is known for her heart-wrenching romances, and this one is a little different. Aaron has been trying to figure out what to do about the dying bookstore he and his dad run. But sparks fly when he meets Hannah, and everything changes. I had a hard time with this book because I really didn’t like the narrator. Aaron, for most of the book, isn’t really a likeable character. Even though it was supposed to be that way, it made it more difficult for me to get into it (3 stars).
Lumberjanes Volumes 1 & 2 by Grace Ellis (7/2)
This is a fun graphic novel series that I’ve been meaning to get to for a while. The Lumberjanes are at a summer camp where crazy things happen. This is such a fun story, complete with art that’s immersive. I love the way the characers interact, and I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures that they get up to in the future (3.5, 4 stars).
