We’re halfway through 2021 somehow, the year has just been flying by! I’ve read over 200 books already, and so many good ones. And there are so many other ones also coming out this year that I can’t wait to get to. I have a feeling that the second half of the year is going to be just as good! Anyway, I thought I’d do a little Mid Year Check-in post, highlighting my top ten so far for this year. Which is going to be difficult to do, but I’m definitely up for the challenge!
Honestly, I always have difficulties making top ten lists because I read so much. For the end of the year, I might do a few different lists, because I read a wide variety of formats. So stay tuned for those later this fall!

Mid Year Check-In: Top Ten
Presented in no particular order.
In the Wild Light by Jeff Zentner
This book might possibly be my favorite book he’s written so far. It’s so poetic, with great characters and gorgeous lines. I might have read it at the right time in my life, but I honestly can’t wait to read it again (Check out my review).
The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch
I basically read this book in one sitting, and I have no regrets. Couch creates an endearing found family that I loved. Sky is such a well-rounded character, and I would love to read another book where he takes center stage (Check out my review).
Wolfsong by TJ Klune
It had been awhile since I stayed up late to finish a book, but I absolutely did with this one. I honestly both needed to know what was going to happen next and didn’t want to leave these characters. If I didn’t have so many other library books checked out, I would have devoured the series.
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
This is Angie Thomas’s best book to date, in my opinion. She’s honed her writing so much since writing The Hate U Give, and getting Maverick’s backstory adds so much to that book. This is another one I read in one sitting and have no regrets (Check out my review).
Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani
I’m just getting into manga for the first time this year, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it! This was a series recommended by one of my favorite authors, and I’m so glad I picked it up. Not only was the story engaging, but the art was beautiful!
Snapdragon by Kat Leyh
Another graphic novel, and one that I knew I had to own so I bought a copy. It now sits on my shelf, and I know I’m going to revisit it at some point. It’s just one of those stories that tugs at your heartstrings and feels unique.
Heartstopper Vol. 4 by Alice Oseman
Of course Heartstopper is going to make the list. I just love it so much. I’ve read through the whole series twice now, and I know this is one of those books I’m going to revisit when I need a pick-me-up. Glad it’s found a space on my shelf.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo
Historical fiction often doesn’t make my top ten lists, but this book was just so well done. You could tell so much research went into this story, plus the writing itself was phenomenal. Plus, it’s about a time in history that isn’t often talked about in YA, which was an added bonus.
Flash Fire by TJ Klune
Is it cheating there are two TJ Klune books on here? I don’t even care. This book was funny with great characters that have fantastic chemistry. I love Nick with all my heart and can’t wait to pick up the third book immediately when it comes out! (Check out my review)
Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
What a twisty mystery/thriller this was! Honestly, even if I saw something coming, the twists thrown in made this such a wild right. This was a debut novel, but you can bet I’m reading anything else that she comes up with! (Check out my review)
