Hello, friends! Happy weekend! It was actually a really great reading week for me. At least, a great listening week. I had Tuesday off so I pretty much listened to an entire book. Which was kind of great! Definitely more days off for that would be the dream. Anyway, for the week of 8/21, I finished 6 books! I’m close to finishing my list for August, too.
Bite Size Reviews: Week of 8/21
Heartsong by TJ Klune (8/21)
Robbie has only really wanted a place to belong. When a mission from his Alpha in the field makes him question everything he knows, he’s unsure of which side he should be on. Friends, I love the Bennett pack! They have found a place in my heart. I basically read this entire series in one weekend, and I loved every moment of it. TJ Klune just has a way of creating great characters and found families that you want to be a part of. Seriously, I don’t know how he does it (5 stars).
Run: Book One by John Lewis (8/21)
In this follow up series to March, we get the continuation of John Lewis’s life in the time after the Selma voting rights campaign. This book focuses on the work that happens after they win a victory for the Civil Rights Movement. Honestly, all of these graphic novels should be required reading for school. They are so informative and really engaging (5 stars).
Skyhunter by Marie Lu (8/23)
Mara is one of the last free countries in the world. Talin is one of the Strikers for the Federation, fighting the Ghosts they made. When Talin saves the life of a mysterious prisoner, little does she know she might be changing the fate of the world. I actually reviewed this last year when it came out, but wanted my memory fresh for the sequel! I listened to the audiobook this time around and I can’t wait to read the sequel (4 stars).
Brothersong by TJ Klune (8/25)
The end of the Green Creek series! And what an ending it was. Everything has built up to this last moment, and I don’t think it could have been a better ending. Klune gives moments to all of our favorite characters and really knows how to pull on those heartstrings. This little found family is absolutely the best and I can’t wait to revisit them in the future (5 stars).
A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee (8/26)
After the death of her girlfriend, Felicity is back at Dalloway School. A year from graduation, Felicity is back in her room at Godwin house. But now there’s a new occupant: teenage writer Ellis Haley. The two form a close bond, even as they try to recreate the murders Dalloway School is known for. This book had all the best fall vibes. It makes me want the cool weather and everything. Lee creates a great setting filled with characters that you’re not sure about their intentions. Keep this one in mind for the fall! (4 stars).
Mister Impossible by Maggie Stiefvater (8/27)
The end of the world is imminent, but in order to save it, it could be the end of the dreamers. As Ronan works to make the ley lines more powerful for dreamers, the Moderators are trying to stop them. The second book in the Dreamer trilogy, and the stakes are definitely higher. I love Ronan and I’m definitely interested in seeing where this story goes! (4 stars).
