Hello, friends! A bit of a late post from me today, but I was busy organizing some stuff earlier this afternoon. I’ve almost got everything put away in my new apartment, and just getting to putting up pictures! Finally feeling a bit more like home. Anyway, that means I haven’t gotten to much reading this week. For the Week of 8/7, I read a total of 5 books. Not bad, but not quite up to my usual rate yet! Hopefully soon!
Bite Size Reviews: Week of 8/7
They’ll Never Catch Us by Jessica Goodman (8/7)
Stella and Ellie might be sisters good at running, but they couldn’t be more different. One thing they do have in common: the new girl, Mila Keene. When she goes missing, the sisters are under suspicion. This is a fast-paced thriller that worked really well as an audiobook! It was just a bit predictable plot wise for me. But it would definitely work for fans of One of Us Is Lying! (3 stars).
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (8/10)
Eleanor is the new girl who first catches Park’s eye on the bus. While at first, they don’t seem to have much in common, they soon bond over music and comics. However, first love doesn’t always last. This was a re-read for me for a banned book club that I’m a part of. I haven’t actually read it since it first came out, but it was just as engaging as I remembered it. Emotional, adorable, just what you expect from Rainbow Rowell (5 stars).
Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim (8/11)
Princess Shiori has a secret: she posses magic, forbidden in her world. She loses control on the day of her bethrothal ceremony, catching the eye of her stepmother. Who then curses her brothers and banishes her from her kingdom. Now, Shiori must figure out how to break the curse and save her brothers. Like Lim’s other books, this was lyrical, engaging, and magical. Her writing style is lush, lending itself well to re-telling of folklore. Plus, that ending! Can’t wait to read the sequel (4.5 stars).
I Hear the Sunspot: Limit Volume 2 by Yuki Fumino (8/11)
As far as I know, this is the final volume in this manga series, which I’m mad about. It doesn’t have a satisfying ending! There is so much chemistry between Taichi and Kohei and it is just lost in their miscommunication. I desperately wanted to see more between them, and there wasn’t that much in this particular volume. Maybe there will be another soon and I will get a better ending! (4 stars).
The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith (8/12)
I already wrote a review for this this week, so just a few thoughts here! This was an engrossing historical fantasy, with twists and turns that keep you guessing at each page. It will be the perfect book to read come fall, with all the fall vibes you could possibly want (4 stars).
