Happy Saturday, friends! It’s a work Saturday for me, but that’s okay. Saturdays are usually pretty chill for the most part. I might even get some reading done! We’ll see wht the day brings. Anyway, Saturday means it’s time for Bite Size Reviews! For the Week of 10/2, I read a total of 5 books! A bit of a slower reading week for me, but still not bad.
I’m doing a fun reading challenge on Instagram for this month, and I’m excited to get started! My posts have also been pretty review heavy lately, but I’m hoping that will change in the next few weeks.
Bite Size Reviews: Week of 10/2
Battle of the Bands edited by Lauren Gibaldi (10/3)
This short story collection follows a battle of the bands event at a high school. Band members, crew members, fans, everyone gets a voice in this book. There are also a lot of great YA authors in this book! I enjoyed some of the stories better than other ones. I think, overall, there were just too many stories and too many characters. Paring it down a bit would have made it easier to follows (3 stars).
Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Saenz (10/5)
I already wrote a review for this book this week, so just a few thoughts here! I didn’t like this one as much as I liked the first book, but that could be in part because I don’t remember much of the first book. Overall, I also think this book was just on the long side. It doesn’t need to be as long as it is, in my opinion. For the most part, it kind of felt like it dragged (3 stars).
Frankie & Bug by Gayle Forman (10/6)
Another one that I already wrote a review for! This middle grade novel hits all of the right notes. There is such a great friendship between Bug and Frankie, I absolutely loved how their relationship evolved. Throw in a little mystery, and you’ve got yourself a great book! (4 stars).
Rainbow in the Dark by Sean McGinty (10/6)
Rainbow finds themselves stuck in a game-like reality that might or might not be real. The last thing that Rainbow can remember is looking for their brother on a beach. In order to get back home, Rainbow and three other teens have to complete a quest that gets increasingly dangerous as they go. This book reminded me a lot of More Than This by Patrick Ness, which I absolutely loved. You never really know what’s real and what isn’t, and I think that’s the best thing about this book (4 stars).
Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry by Joya Goffney (10/6)
Quinn is the queen of making lists. Her journal contains lists for everything, from who she wants to kiss to her darkest, deepest fears. When her journal disappears, someone starts blackmailing her to do things on one of her lists. With the help of Carter, she’s determined to get it back. I listened to this book on audio and it was so engrossing. Not only does it have a great romance, but it also discusses a lot of other issues, too. Great characters with great chemistry. This one should definitely be on your list! (4 stars).
